Subject: Mike Massie's Friday Randomness Email...

Friend,

I call these Friday emails randomness, but the truth is they're anything but.

Sometimes I share items that are funny or amusing, and other times I'll share something that's interesting or thought-provoking...

But there's always a method to the madness.

This week I wanted to share an audio clip (via YouTube) by a guy that influenced many of the movers and shakers you hear about today. Yet, he's rarely spoken of by those same coaches and motivational speakers, which I think is a bit of a travesty.*

Jim Rohn billed himself as "the world's foremost business philosopher," and I think that's as apt a description of the man as any.

I started listening to Jim Rohn in my early twenties, and he was one of the thinkers who helped me change my attitude toward business and life. Rohn, Ziglar, Tracy -- these three speakers made a tremendous impact on my thinking and my life.

When you listen to Jim Rohn today, it's easy to be distracted by his dated references and the down home tone of his speeches. However, the longer you listen to him, the more the simple wisdom the man shared kicks in.

And after a while, you'll realize that he's purposely sharing very profound wisdom in a language that anyone can easily understand. The power of what he taught was in its simplicity. I think that's the real genius in Jim's teachings -- that anyone can "get" what he teaches.

This particular audio clip** I've chosen for you today is a great introduction to Jim Rohn's teachings. In it, Jim talks about avoiding distraction and the discipline of staying focused on your mission and goal:

Now, for something fun...

Have you seen this promo clip? Apparently Idris Elba spent a year learning Muay Thai and other martial arts, and (spoiler alert) he knocked out his opponent in his first pro bout:

I hope they air this show in the U.S., because it looks like it's worth watching.

And finally, something for the grapplers...

If you don't know who Roy Dean is, he's considered to be one of the smartest jiu-jitsu instructors out there. A traditional martial artist at heart, Roy has black belts in Japanese ju jutsu, judo, aikido, and BJJ.

This little gem consists of two hours of Roy commenting on clips of him and his students rolling. I thought it was pretty neat of him to share this for free online, and for those of you who teach grappling and/or jiu-jitsu, it might be something to share with your new students.

That's all for today. Have a great weekend!

Until next time,

Mike Massie

P.S. - *Jim Rohn is the guy who got Tony Robbins started as a motivational speaker and coach. No Jim Rohn, no Tony Robbins. Dan Kennedy also held Jim Rohn in high regard, and wrote a hell of a dedication to him in his newsletter when Jim passed on.

P.S.S. - **Jim was often hired to speak by various companies that operated in an industry which shall not be named. Don't let that distract you from his message.
