OK, I know you’re probably still wondering… “who is this Javier guy… and why did Mike bring him on-board. I’d rather hear from Mike anyways!”
Well, I don’t blame you for even thinking that! Heck, I’d probably say the same too!
But, did you know that before Tony Robbins was who he currently is, he had a mentor by the name of Jim Rohn. And, Tony has plenty of proteges that have come under him too.
No, I’m not comparing myself to Jim… or Tony… or even his protege’s!
I’m simply saying that I was coached and mentored by Mike Massie for a few years.
His coaching and program really took my business to the next level.
I started my studio in August 2008, right at the height of the recession. WORSE timing ever. And, to make things worse, I didn’t do ALL the methods and strategies of Small Dojo Big Profits — like teach Karate at a church.
Nope. I signed a 5 year lease in a large shopping center (that ended up dying because of the recession) with a personal guarantee tied to it. Yep. The personal guarantee was about $275,000. I attribute that “poor decision” to being 27 years old and dumb.
But, what I did do from Small Dojo Big Profits was hustle my face-off, market like crazy, and close like no other. All characteristics of a small footprint dojo.
In addition, I worked 40 hours / week in a sales job that DID NOT pay commissions, and 40+ hours / week at my studio, for over a year. I STILL remember the phone call with Mike when we chatted late at night to discuss if it was time to quit my sales job…
I was NOT going to fail.
And… I didn’t. Yes, there were PLENTY of ups and downs, but I always found a way to bounce back and grow.
Anyways, our studio was generating about $290k-$300k+ / year over the past 4-5 years. Prior to that we were in the $250k-$275k / year. My margins were high too. I was easily pulling in 6 figures in net profits.
No, I’m not bragging. I’m simply sharing this story because the system works. And, it’s duplicatable too.
But, the only reason I was able to take my business to this level was because I invested in my personal and business development. First with Mike Massie, then other mentors and coaching programs.
In February 2018, I ended up selling my studio for more than what most studio owners make in 5 years. No joke. Ask Mike.
Again, not a bragging moment. I would not have been able to do it if it wasn’t for my coaches throughout the years.
