I went to Dallas in May to do some final scouting for next year's Total Solar Eclipse Workshop, more on that later. I've been to Dallas before but was on a rather tight work schedule and didn't do the tourist things. This time I went with friend and great photographer Brian Horton, who is working on the workshop with me. We went to Dealey Plaza where President Kennedy was shot. We were struck by the lack of Kennedy tributes in the area. The plaza, which was there before the shooting, honors newspaper publisher George Dealey, who you would think had a much larger world impact than Kennedy. I know Texans weren't the biggest Kennedy fan but I'd think there would be more than a couple small plaques mentioning that, oh yeah, a president was killed here. There are two Xs painted on the street showing where Kennedy and Texas Gov. Connolly were hit. That seems a bit creepy. They do have a museum in the nearby old schoolhouse repository building and a memorial to Kennedy a couple of blocks away, but the plaza still belongs to the newspaper guy. It did make for a nice photo after sunset with cars and a bus streaking over the spot where the shooting happened. |
| | Eclipse workshop in Dallas There is nothing that excites me more than seeing and photographing a total solar eclipse. Lunar eclipses are cool, partial solar eclipses are interesting but that time during totality is something special that words or pictures don't do justice. So I'm thrilled to be going to Dallas in April for the world's next total solar eclipse. The eclipse also happens less than 50 miles from my Vermont house but there are pretty good odds that Vermont will be cloudy in early April, which is why I'm going to the drier area of Dallas. My friend and fellow photographer Brian Horton is helping me with the workshop and we spent a few days in Dallas in May doing some final scouting and finding us a special place to view and photograph the eclipse. We put together a great plan for eclipse day and also the days after, we might as well photograph the Dallas area while we are there! This will be my third total solar eclipse workshop and you'll get plenty of instruction on how to photograph the eclipse and get a photo like the one above showing the corona. It takes some special post processing and we'll have a session in Dallas where you work on your photo. Brian and I have a great location where we'll get Dallas' tall buildings in a shot and we also have a special remote surprise that we aren't letting the world know about so you'll come away with unique photos. The workshop is half full already, so if you are interested, sign up right away. You can get more details and register at https://lorenphotos.com/product/eclipse-photography-workshop/ |
| | | There's still room for Vermont Night Skies and Light Painting workshops I still have some openings for my Vermont Night Skies and Light Painting workshops in June and July. It is great fun to get out at night, away from city lights, and see the beauty of the universe. We'll photograph the Milky Way as it arches over barns, a covered bridge, an old one-room schoolhouse and more. I'll show you everything you need to know and make sure you are getting some great images, so you don't need any previous astrophotography experience. I bring my assortment of flashlights and show you how to paint light and make the foreground look wonderful. Get more info about the June workshop. And click here for the July workshop. |

Iceland is waiting for us August is coming fast and I'm looking forward to another trip to Iceland. The island is special any time of year but the green of summer is so wonderful. I still have a couple of openings for the August 12-18 workshop. We'll photograph lots of massive waterfalls, black sand beaches, ice diamonds, glaciers, lagoons, Icelandic horses and, of course, cute little puffins. Plus a lot more. I hope you can join me, you can get more info at https://lorenphotos.com/product/iceland-summer-photography-workshop/ |
