| | New workshop: Total Solar Eclipse |

I have photographed two total solar eclipses, one in Oregon and one in Chile. I can tell you there is nothing in nature that moves me like they do. The next eclipse happens to cross North America and even comes within 30 miles of my Vermont home. It will be on April 8, 2024 and the possibility of clouds in Vermont in April are pretty high so I'm hosting a workshop in the dryness of the Dallas, Texas, area.
The workshop will focus on the eclipse but we'll also photograph some other great things around Dallas. For the eclipse, I will help you with the right equipment, the most important is a solar filter for your lens. In fact, we will make custom solar filters for each participant. I'll show you how to photograph the corona around the sun, like the photo above, and how to do post processing to bring out what the camera sees that your eye won't. You don't need any other special equipment, nearly any camera will work but you will need a 500-600mm lens if you want a shot of the corona. Of course there are other photos to be had of the eclipse and I'll show you how to get them.

| | Help with tripods One of the most frequent gear questions I get is about tripods. I hate seeing photographers at workshops using a cheap, flimsy tripod because I know when they get home they are going to be disappointed because the tripod didn't keep their camera steady and they'll have blurry photos.
