| | I don't particularly like year-in-review stuff, especially on TV news where they are just filling time with cheap content. But I think it is a good exercise to go back and see what I shot and see what I can learn from it. The older I get the less I shoot and the more I learn. I don't make as many photos it seems because I tend not to shoot what I've shot before, unless I can make a better picture or get something from a different angle. One thing I noticed looking back at 2022 is that I shot a lot more with my drone. There's that different angle thing at work.
My 2022 photographic highlight was hiking to an active volcano in Iceland and waiting until dark to take in the light show. The drone came in pretty handy there. I've put together my favorite photos I made in 2022, you can take a look here: https://lorenphotos.com/favorite-photos-from-2022/ |
| | Saying goodbye to a great neighbor Earlier this month a dear neighbor passed away. Ducky Freeman lived across the street and was a true independent, strong Vermont woman. Many people who have come to Woodstock have had the pleasure of photographing at her property in Pomfret. Ducky loved when I would take people there to photograph or just take in the beauty. It was part of her Vermont sensibility, if you have something, share it with others. For several years she worried what would happen to her property after she was gone. The last thing she wanted was for it to be developed and broken up into little pieces. Fortunately the land will be taken care of and the memories of Ducky will last forever. Thanks Ducky. |
| | Join me for a Cuba adventure in April |
| Cuba has been a mess since the pandemic. They weren't in good shape before the Covid shutdown and that obviously killed tourism. A major hurricane wiped out much of the electrical grid and many crops. They were in near famine and traveling to the island was not feasible. They are now making a comeback and I feel good about going there again. So I'm putting together a rather last minute trip April 15-23. I'm still working out the final details, I should have it posted in a week or so but we'll start in Havana and go to Trinidad for a few days. It will be a special trip, the Cuban people are friendly and thrilled to have us back. Let me know if you are interested, I'm going to keep it to a small group so it will fill up fast.

| | There's nothing like a good snowstorm |
| | One of the main reasons I'm in Vermont is the beauty and there's nothing prettier than a good snowstorm. The last one week was a real beauty, we got about 15 inches of heavy, wet snow that stuck to everything. I got out as the snow was falling and was like a pig in, well, snow. I have a list of places that I've scouted before the snow falls and this little red barn was high on the list. It was still snowing and everything was perfectly covered with the white stuff, which made the red barn pop. There are more photos on my blog at https://lorenphotos.com/who-doesnt-love-a-good-snowstorm/ |
