Subject: Where Ya Goin'?

Hey Friend,

Here’s a great quote to start you out for the week:

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don’t much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go," said the Cat.
"--so long as I get SOMEWHERE," Alice added as an explanation.
"Oh, you’re sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough.”

Wouldn’t you agree?

We’re all going to end up somewhere, because time marches on, whether we do anything or not.

But "ending up somewhere" isn’t exactly what I would call... successful… would you?

That’s exactly what happens, though, when you don’t know where you’re going or what you want.

Unfortunately, I believe most of us are stuck in limbo, like a ghost that can’t move on to the next realm.

We have a vague idea of a general direction to go, but putting together a plan to get to “somewhere” is like trying to herd cats.

The problem is, because nothing is specific, we end up spinning in place, never seeming to make any progress towards anything.

When distractions are constantly popping up (I’m looking at you, Email, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, texts, cellphone, or whatever your poison is!), it’s tough to get even a second’s peace to think about where you want to go.

To succeed, you HAVE to know where you want to end up. This HAS to be a concrete image in your mind.

Then you have to eliminate every distraction and create a plan to get there. It doesn’t have to be a perfect plan, just something to start you in the right direction.

Remember, no plan ever survives contact with the enemy, so you can be sure you’ll have to make adjustments.

But the key is to have that target in mind as you take action to get there.

What kind of guitar player do you want to be?

Is guitar a simple stress release or a tool for you to write songs, or are you a virtuoso in the making?

Knowing what you want to accomplish makes it a lot easier to figure out what kind of effort you need to put in.

Since we’re going into the end of the year, start thinking about what you want out of guitar. Whether it’s just a hobby or tool, or something you want to do for a career, I’m curious to know.

Drop me a line and tell me where you're going.

Peace~
