Duran Duran

Hey Friend,

I don’t know why this hasn’t bubbled up to the surface before…

You know, top of mind stuff…

But August 10 was International Duran Duran Appreciation Day

Wait, you missed it, too?!

I swear, “they” need to get better about announcing these important dates!

I’m about over this corona-virus bollocks and political wrangling. "All We Need is Love," am I right?

Seriously though, I do enjoy Duran Duran and remember when "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio" came out. My musical formative years were in full bloom then, MTV was the place to be, and Duran Duran weren’t bashful with their edgy videos.

The mix of New Wave sound, funky bass lines and an image to fit the times - plus the fact that girls loved them -  was enough for me to at least try to capture the look myself.

None of my bands ever played any DD, mainly because we were more guitar-centric than synth/keyboards. That’s on my bucket list though - to learn how to create and program those cool sounds (and maybe even get into another cover band).

Just last week, I saw John Taylor (bass player) had posted a video lesson on Youtube for the bass lines in Rio. He’s actually a pretty good teacher, and the bass lines are kinda awesome, whether you like DD or not. Looks like he posts a new lesson each week on Wednesdays.

Us guitar players can pick up some good hints in there about rhythm and foundation, so give it a watch. Rock on!

Peace~

Dave
