Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time – February 19, 2011

A Healing

Four men tore off the roof of a Palestinian home and lowered a
paralytic before a popular preacher. What would happen next would
amaze the people and confound enemies. The preacher, one Jesus of
Nazareth, would claim to have the power of God to forgive and to
heal.

MP3 PODCAST "http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/b/7-b/AO-7-b.mp3"
What if God did something new in our lives? In this week’s
audio podcast, we investigate that question. The answer to the
question is ages old, yet surprises us when we accept it at its
full value.

FIRST READING
"http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/b/7-b/FR-7-b.html" Second
Isaiah spoke to the people about God new initiative. He would
accomplish something that the people dared not even imagine. Yet,
he would. He would free them from bondage in Babylon.

PSALM "http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/Psalms/41.html" Psalm 41
was a song of the sick person whose confidence lay beyond
personal strength. The author placed all his trust in God, not in
even the closest of friends.

SECOND READING
"http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/b/7-b/SR-7-b.html" Despite a
change in travel plans, St. Paul reaffirmed his faith and
activity among the faithful of Corinth. In his second letter to
the community, Paul insisted that his ministry was far more than
his personal activity. It was the will of God.

GOSPEL "http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/b/7-b/A-7-b.html" In the
gospel of Mark, Jesus forgave the paralytic who was lowered
before him on a stretcher. While that act caused controversy, it
affirmed the activity of God in a new way. Through Jesus, God
forgave sins!

CHILDREN’S READING
"http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/b/7-b/K-7-b.html" In the story
for the first reading, Joseph lived in a country that was not his
own, in a neighbor controlled by those who hated him because he
was Jewish. His question “Why?” would be answered by
something new, by God working another miracle. In the story for
the gospel, Danny didn’t want to have the new kid play on his
basketball team. That kid, the one in the wheel chair, would
prove to Danny that disabilities are sometimes in the heart, not
on the court.

CATECHISM LINK
"http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/Catechism/L-S/Reconciliation.html"
This week’s Catechism Link reviews the Sacrament of
Reconciliation in detail. This is the sacrament for the healing
of the heart.

FAMILY ACTIVITY
"http://www.word-sunday.com/Files/b/7-b/F-7-b.html" Role play the
healing of the paralytic from Mark’s gospel with your family.
Stress that a forgiveness of sin is sometimes far greater than
physical healing. Forgiveness heals the heart and the community.
