29th Sunday in Ordinary Time - C - October 20, 2013

Keep Praying

How many blessings do we thank God for? How many second chances and healings do we acknowledge with gratitude? I’m afraid I don’t thank God enough. Faith is and should be a exercise in appreciation, ongoing thanks.

STUDIES FOR THE 28TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

DAILY READINGS FOR THE 28TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

FEAST OF ST. LUKE October 18, 2013

WEEKLY BLOG Who has the virtue of persistence?

MP3 PODCAST In this week’s audio podcast, we learn that the key to a healthy prayer life is love and practice.

FIRST READING Exodus 3 presented a battle narrative in which the prayer stance of Moses determined the outcome of the struggle. Perseverance and the help of others are key to a good prayer life.

PSALM Psalm 121 was a blessing for the traveler on a religious pilgrimage. It was a prayer for safe journey.

SECOND READING What are the qualities of a good Christian teacher? 2 Timothy 3-4 listed such qualities: Biblical literacy, patience and direct engagement.

GOSPEL In Luke 18, Jesus told the parable of the Widow and the Dishonest Judge. The moral of this story spoke to direct, persistent prayer life.

CHILDREN’S READINGS In the story for the first reading, Jimmy grew up with two uncles, a gregarious uncle who was willing to please and a serious, yet honest uncle. Jimmy wanted to be like both uncles, but in times of stress, he wanted to be like the honest uncle. This was the same advice St. Paul gave to Timothy. In the story for the gospel, Josie was known for her perseverance, even in the face of failure. In the closing moments, Josie’s perseverance led her team to victory. “Never give up” was Josie’s motto. It was also Jesus’s moral on prayer.

CATECHISM LINK In this week's Catechism Link, we talk about tips on prayer.

FAMILY ACTIVITY To put the Jesus’ message of prayerful perseverance in action, practice short prayers that can be said anywhere at anytime with your family. A rosary or praying the name of Jesus over and over can help in times of stress or distraction.
