Hello from us at Konsthall C,

We want to start by thanking everyone who came to our events last week, including the workshop with the animator Kaoru Furuko and the panel discussion linked to Unkilled. It made us so happy to see such support and commitment around a conversation about refugee detention.

Next up, Ana Barata will exhibit a film in Centrifug and the artist James Webb will broadcast a radio program as part of the project Sånger till Hökarängen. There is also an opportunity to get involved in the art gallery as we're looking for artists to exhibit on our new digital platform. If you or someone you know might be interested, don't hesitate to apply and spread the word. More information about this opportunity will be included below.

A world without America

Video and fine artist Ana Barata will be exhibiting their work about Portuguese colonial memory in Centrifug 17-20th of March.

A world without America is an essay film using personal narratives and epoch archive material to portray the Portuguese post-dictatorial era. These tell how historical memory is not always consensual but mostly opaque, and how silence is used to cope with the failure of political ideology.

98.1 FM in Hökarängen

The artist James Webb starts a radio channel that's part ghost story, part architectural analysis of the area; if you can access the signal, then the message is for you.

A radio signal beams a voice, sometimes two voices, that speak a stream of

thoughts and observations about the suburb of Hökarängen. The stories seem to indicate that these voices are an expression of a presence, a ghost or a nature spirit, - someone or something that is intimately connected to the place - possibly contained within the 1940s and 1950s neighbourhood planning in the area, or from much earlier, when Hökarängen was a rough pathway through inhospitable swamps.

As an FM broadcast, the artwork will be present throughout the suburb: in the streets, parks, and courtyards, and seeping into the houses, schools, and surrounding woods. If you are in the area you can tune in to 98.1FM to listen.

You are welcome to experience the piece at Konsthall C or, alternatively, borrow a portable radio from the gallery and follow along outside for as long as the transmission reaches. This piece is part of a larger project titled Sånger till Hökarängen and will be available from the 19th of March to the 1st of April.

Open call to local artists

We are looking for digital exhibition proposals from artists who live or work in Hökarängen.

Konsthall C is currently building a new exhibition platform on our website, which explores the digital and wants to platform the newly established community of artists in Hökarängen.

Proposals don't need to follow a particular theme. We are mainly curious about which stories the artists in our area want to tell. However, we ask that artists embrace that the exhibition is completely digital, what that can mean for your practice and how you choose to present your work. You can submit your application through the link below. The deadline to apply is the 26th of March.
