The Drop Point Cub® is a purpose-built hunter-skinner that sits naturally in the hand, placing the butt freely in the palm for the kind of controlled precision work that demands a shorter, responsive blade. At 2.75 inches of satin-finished, hollow-ground 440A stainless steel (RC 54–56), it delivers a blade that takes and holds an edge without demanding the advanced metallurgical knowledge of high-carbon builds.

This base configuration gives the builder complete freedom over handle materials and aesthetics. Eight perimeter tang holes at 0.078 inches provide a full range of fastening options, and a single 0.187-inch thong hole accommodates optional lanyard rigging. Stainless steel pinstock and thong-hole tubing are included. The pre-pinned stainless steel finger guard is factory-fitted and ready for your handle work.

440A - The Steel Behind the Cub

440A stainless steel has long been the choice for hunting and skinning blades that need corrosion resistance in field conditions. Heat-treated to a Rockwell hardness of RC 54–56 and finished with a hollow grind, the Drop Point Cub® blade is ready to hold a working edge from the first sharpening. No additional heat treating required.

The Drop Point Cub® Combo Kit adds a matched pair of pre-machined hardwood handle scale blanks to everything found in the base kit, giving the builder a streamlined path from workbench to finished knife. Choose between classic American Walnut — valued for its straight grain, warm chocolate tones, and generational durability — or Curly Maple, prized by craftsmen for its striking figure and polish-ready surface.

The scale blanks ship slightly oversized in both thickness and diameter relative to the handle tang. This allows for proper sanding, shaping, and any artistic embellishment you wish to apply. They arrive undrilled to give the builder full placement control and to maximize fastening options. The result is a foundation that accelerates the build without dictating its outcome.

From the deep red-brown grain of Bubinga to the electric violet hue of Purpleheart, from the warm golden tones of Canarywood to the lace-like figure of Lacewood — each scale blank is cut to 3.50 x 1.25 x 0.250 inches, two per kit, and arrives ready for layout, drilling, shaping, and finishing.
