    LOVEJOY! 

     Well certainly a more inspiring name than ISON?

Well, now that the "Comet of the Century" , Comet Ison (and only being 13 years into this century I never figured
out exactly how Ison could be the comet of the century, since it's a long way from being over...but likely
some guys on Madison avenue thought that one up.....you know, the same guys that are in the television
series, "Madmen", which is about Madison ave advertising execs, and
which makes smoking fashionable and every guy wanting to look like Don Draper. ('cept yours
truly of course.....)

Anyway, now that Ison is somewhat out of the picture, the good news is that we do have another delightful Comet
to observe this month; (and we ain't naming it "Comet of any Century".....

So here is some information on it, so you can check it out..........

Comet C/2013 R1 Lovejoy Still Visible...

If you were disappointed because you didn't get to enjoy Comet ISON before it broke up, then weep no more. Comet Lovejoy will be happy to take its place! At the opening of December, you'll find this fuzzy green comet with the long tail located to the north of the constellations of Bootes and Corona Borealis and easily within the capabilities of small optics. At mid-month it will have reached Hercules and be positioned to the southeast of bright keystone star, Zeta. By Christmas it have journeyed just a short distance east of Delta Herculis and continue eastward until the end of the year. How long can you follow it?

Some tips on Comet Observing:

1) Find an area with a clear horizon, especially if the Comet is close to horizon or 15 to 10 degrees above. No treeline

2) Scan area slowly with binoculars first. Then aim telescope to target when found.

3) Dark sky really helps.  Or head south towards a lake.

4) Try to observe when the Moon is out of range. Usually waste of time is Moon is full and close to target object.
