Subject: Dude buys a scope on Kijiji and it doesn't work properly? Sheesh.

Hello Friend,

Have you  noticed that in the past few years, there has been an increasing amount of self-entitlement behaviour in society
by some individuals.

This applies to many areas, but I have noticed increased poor behaviour on the part of some customers at our retail store.

Maybe you've noticed it too?

Civility, good manners , common courtesy.

Sadly lacking today.

Maybe I'm getting too old and cynical, you think?

Well, let's see what you think, here we go with the "
Which rock did you crawl under from?  dept,

A fellow came into the store this past week with a Computerized telescope he had purchased on Kijiji which
apparently was not working properly.

(Well, what a surprise: sometimes a good deal ain't such a good deal, especially if you have not clue as to what
you're buying. Someone else gets RID of what was their problem, and now it's yours. Congratulations!).

He asked if we had the same model in stock and when we said we did,  asked  we could open it and test the hand control on his telescope.

"Sorry, No" was the answer.

We sell our gear in factory sealed boxes. When a customer buys
a new telescope they expect a new one in an unopened box and untampered and rightfully so.

So, No we are not going to open a brand new box and take out the hand control for you to test.

The fellow implied that if we played ball with him he would buy from us in the future.

We suggested that yes we could play ball and he could order a new hand control for his telescope
or alternatively, he could contact the manufacturer.

OR another option was to have our technician inspect the instrument and determine if the problem
was in the hand control or otherwise.  For a fee of course.

Well,, now he insisted on speaking to the technician first.

And on it went.

He hadn't spent a nickel so far but felt entitled to all sorts of things and when he didn't get his way
he cried fowl.

Finally he left, no further ahead  than when he came in and muttering under his breath.

Look, we will support you and go the extra mile if you buy a scope from us and have issues in or out
of warranty.

We have excellent working relationships with all our suppliers and they back us up likewise 100%.

PS An older lady brought in a pair of binoculars for repair  this week that were made in the Federation Republic of Germany.
Wow.  That's way before my time.   Fascinating nonetheless. It's a curious piece of optics. Needs a darn good cleaning.
