“This is my wish for you: peace of mind, prosperity through the year, happiness that multiplies, health for you and yours, fun around every corner, energy to chase your dreams, joy to fill your holidays!”

[[firstname]],
The holidays are a whirlwind of anticipation, celebration, stress, frustration (shopping and trying to find a parking spot come to mind), joy, worry, spending time with loved ones and so much more. There's a lot going on, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed even though it's a happy time.

When I refer to holiday hangovers, I don't just mean physically. You can also feel a bit hungover from a mental, emotional and spiritual perspective.

Here's my top 4 tips for avoiding a holiday hangover:
  1. Hangover from shopping - there's nothing worse than receiving a large credit card bill in January. To minimize the damage, shop with a list. This will keep you on task and prevent you from overspending on every shiny object you see. And when you're done, resist going back out to buy more. Most people just want to spend time with you. Giving a gift is an added bonus.
  2. Hangover from alcohol - if, perchance, you happen to overindulge a little at the office holiday party, eat some greens the next day. Greens alkalinize the blood and will get you back on track in no time. If you can't stomach the thought of a salad or green smoothie, try a powdered version. I use Alkalinize by Beachbody, and it offers fast relief. My other tip for overindulging in holiday cheer is homeopathic Nux Vomica. Take before bed or in the morning if you forget. You can find it on-line, at your local health food store or Whole Foods Market. Take as directed.
  3. Hangover from exhaustion - we're busy by nature, but we definitely push ourselves into overdrive during the holidays. Stay hydrated to keep your energy up. Half your weight in ounces daily (mostly water) is the general rule of thumb. If you need a boost of energy, try dark chocolate (70 percent or higher) instead of caffeinated beverages. Or try a new favorite of mine, certified therapeutic grade peppermint essential oil. Rub one drop into the palm of your hands, cup them together and inhale deeply three times. That will perk you right up!
  4. Hangover from overwhelm - the holidays can be a difficult time for a lot of people. Especially if you've lost a loved one, are struggling financially or are disheartened by all the commercialism. I find it particularly helpful to tune in to my spiritual beliefs when it gets to be too much. A random act of kindness for a perfect stranger can really help me get back into feeling the reason for the season. Volunteering at church, being a secret santa for a family in need, and taking a yoga class help too. Do something that nurtures your soul, whatever that may be for you.
My very best wishes to you and your family for a blessed and peaceful holiday season. Stay healthy and be safe.

Take care,

Kat
