Subject: It's Not You ... It's Your Hormones!

“Weight gain, mood swings, fatigue, and low libido aren’t diseases that can be “cured” with a quick injection or a pharmaceutical. Most of these problems can’t be permanently solved by eating less or exercising more. They are hormonal problems. They mean our bodies are trying to tell us that something is wrong.”
~ Sara Gottfried, The Hormone Cure
Greetings!

With Spring finally getting underway, it's hard not to feel happy. We've weathered another winter, and can put it behind us - finally!

Speaking of happy, I have some fun things to share with you in this month's e-news. Be sure to read my post below on how out of balance hormones can derail your happiness. I also have a free app to share that tells you if you're stressed. And don't miss out on the Food Focus segment featuring homemade pico de gallo. I learned how to make this tasty treat while I was on vacation in Mexico, and it's muy delicioso!

Thanks for checking in. I know how busy you are and really appreciate your readership.

Take care,

Kat
It's Not You ... It's Your Hormones!

Last month I started training with Dr. Sara Gottfried to learn how to teach The Hormone Cure. I can't even tell you how excited I am about this.

What's the big deal you ask? Everyone knows PMS, peri-menopause and menopause can turn the sweetest, most confident of women into either a weepy, clinging wreck or an angry, no holds barred brawler.

The big deal is ... I've got some answers for you. The Hormone Cure is all about natural based solutions for your meltdowns - whatever they may be.

I don't know about you, but some of the symptoms I've experienced are:

  • Cravings for sugar and caffeine.
  • Hot flashes that woke me from a dead sleep, and feeling like my back was on fire.
  • Low libido.
  • Feeling really sensitive - crying one minute and having a meltdown the next.
  • Tired but wired feeling.
  • Excessive worrying.
  • Feeling low and having a hard time rousing myself out of bed in the morning.

Fun Stuff Free

One of my new favorite Apps is GPS for the Soul available for iPhone. It measures your stress level by using a feature that checks your heart rate.

How it works: Place your finger tip over the camera lens (which lights up) on your smart phone. Then it counts down from 80 seconds and monitors your heart rate.  Very cool.

If it says you're stressed out, you can select the "start a guide" option and lower your heart rate with guided meditations, pictures of nature, yoga, breathing exercises and calming music. Check it out!
How Much Water Should I Drink?

The old rule of thumb - 8 glasses of 8 ounces - is out. Why? Because it doesn't take into account that we're all different shapes, sizes and weight.

The better guideline is half your weight in ounces.

I know what you're going to say: Holy Cow! That's a lot!

That's mostly because we're not used to drinking water. Try it for a week. You'll have more energy, your skin will glow and you'll feel better overall.
Food Focus: Pico de Gallo

If you can't get to someplace tropical, then eating something that reminds you of a favorite vacation spot is the next best thing. This tasty salsa is not only healthy, it's a breeze to make.

3 Roma tomatoes, diced
1/2 small onion, diced
1 small jalapeño, de-seeded and diced (use less if you want less heat)
1 clove garlic, chopped
1-2 Tbsp. cilantro, finely chopped
1 Tbsp. lime juice
salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients and let sit in refrigerator for an hour or overnight to let the flavors blend. Use as a topping for fish, chicken or as an appetizer with blue corn chips.

Enjoy!
