Subject: Iodine and your thyroid health

Hi Friend,

Did you know your body needs iodine to make thyroid hormones? Yup. It’s true.

Did you also know that your body can’t manufacture iodine on its own? Also, true.

A deficiency in iodine can lead to a host of health problems including an enlarged thyroid gland (also known as a goiter) and hypothyroidism among others.

If you’ve been dealing with thyroid dysfunction, then you’re probably familiar with some of the symptoms:

• Anxiety, irritability, and nervousness.

• Difficulty sleeping or staying asleep.

• Thinning hair.

• Eyebrows thinning at the outer edges.

• Enlarged thyroid gland or a goiter.

• Muscle weakness and tremors.

• Irregular menstrual periods or having your menstrual cycle stop.

• Difficulty losing weight.

• Feeling cold, especially hands and feet.

Before you run to your local health food store and stock up on supplements, consider this: Iodine supplementation can be tricky. Too much is as bad as not enough and can have a negative impact on thyroid health.

Instead, think about adding more iodine rich foods to your diet. Your body loves using food as medicine and adding in food that naturally supply iodine can help improve your thyroid health. Foods naturally high in iodine include:

• Seafood

• Sea vegetables like kelp, dulse, kombu, wakami, and nori

• Nettle leaf

• Capers and other pickled foods

• Eggs

• Beans

• Beef liver

• Chicken

Try adding one or more of these foods into your diet and see how you feel.
