TOP PERFORMANCE
On Amazon Kindle, Romantic Comedy remains one of the best-performing romance genres: sky-high sales, albeit fiercely competitive.
In 2025, 55% of the Top 100 most-sold Kindle books were Romance titles. Within those, Romantic Comedy was the #2 sub-genre after Romantasy, ranking ahead of Dark Romance, Mafia Romance, Hockey Romance, Billionaire Romance, and Western Romance.
In the UK, where Romance overall still has a smaller market share than in the US, RomCom was again the clear #2 Romance segment in the annual Kindle Top 100, behind Romantasy.
On Google, as another indicator, search interest for “rom com books” has tripled over the past five years.
By the way, a 2025 streaming industry analysis showed that romance, including RomCom, accounts for a larger share of viewing hours than of production spend, a clear sign of strong audience demand relative to investment.
And from this month’s K-lytics ELITE category performance database: On Kindle US, Romantic Comedy is currently the #3 highest-selling Romance category, after Romantasy and overall Contemporary, across more than 100 tracked bestseller lists.
THE MID-MARKET OPPORTUNITY
What is especially interesting as we move from 2025 into 2026:
RomCom continues to show a strong presence among the most-sold books of the year. However, the Top 20 “big hitters” in terms of average sales ranks have cooled slightly over the past 24 months, though from a very high level.
At the same time, total RomCom market volume in dollars has grown.
In other words, the midlist is gaining strength. Success is spreading beyond blockbuster headliners, supported by emerging author brands and a growing share of series-driven RomCom readership.
Notably, this growth includes a significant presence of indie and hybrid authors, even in a market heavily contested by major publishers.
