Subject: 🟢🏇 Join Us! New Horse, New Trainer?

Good Evening, Friend

Another New Horse, and Trainer?

I hope this email finds you in good form. It's an exciting time of year, the flat horses are getting us racing in the sunshine (Spirit/Coolree/Al Ameed should be back out this month), we're in good form (3 of last 7 runners winning and a few places), summer jumper Shandancer is back this moth, and the winter jumpers are starting to come back in from their holidays, filling us with even more hopes and dreams. We've a fine team there. Oh, and sales season has arrived...

We are hot on the heels of selling out our new 'French Adventure' in no time, with pre-orders for two new yearlings to be trained by Amy in France, and to run in France. It's a project which really excites many of you. It's all go go go, and it will be great to add #15 and #16 to the RTPS string very soon. We couldn't do it without you and will be forever grateful.

A New Horse, and a New Trainer?

The wheels never stop turning in this game and we were recently made aware that the SEVEN time winner MART, was being sent to the upcoming Horses In Training Sale. I believe some ownership issues, rather than anything to do with the horse, who has been expertly trained by Dylan Cunha in Newmarket (Phantom House Stables, off Fordham Road) and who doesn't want to see him leave. If we are fortunate to buy Mart, he will stay with Dylan.

I have recorded a video touching on Mart, Dylan, why I like him, and what we would do with him if we were so fortunate to have the winning bid... You can watch that at the top of this email...

The horse...

  • He's only a four year old, who is tough, hardy, durable, takes his racing very well, and knows where the winning post is. He's a trier, who races prominently or leads, and does his best.

  • He's grey! And should get whiter in time! We do need a grey. Everyone loves a grey! :)

  • I believe there is more to come - he's done his winning in the OR 70-75 range, the top end of Class 5s, he's now back down to 70, and won again three starts ago. You can set your watch by him when on the right mark and placed into the right race. However - he has some very tough and durable half siblings, multiple winners, including Ornate, who was a very good sprint handicapper. His family just keeps winning, and many of them improve when they are aged 5,6,7 and even 8. Two of his half brothers kept winning as 9YOs. As with many 5-7f horses, they can keep improving with age, getting stronger, and sometimes quicker. I think this lad has many more wins to come, many great days ahead, as he matures further. There are plenty of examples of similar types taking off again as they mature, reaching greater heights.

  • He has wins at Newmarket, Brighton and on the AW at Wolverhampton, Lingfield and Newcastle

  • In handicaps, he's 7 wins from 29 starts, 12 places. A 24% win strike rate in handicaps for any horse is mad and every chance he can keep it up.

  • He's already won 51k in prize money in just 20 months since with Dylan.

The trainer...

  • Dylan Cunha: As I type Dylan has just had a very good winner at Yarmouth. We've decided we'd like a horse with Dylan in Newmarket and to grow the Newmarket rosta. Dylan fits the bill, having started out with just 3 horses over here, and having built himself up in no time to nearly 50 horses at Phantom House Stables. He's a qualified airline pilot, a smart man, former G1 winning trainer in his native South Africa, but started again with nothing over here. He's a grafter who gets the best out of every horse in their care. His numbers/stats are strong, especially with the money spent.

  • Having bought 10 yearlings on spec last year, they got 5 of them to Royal Ascot this year, including a superb 5th in The Windsor Castle. They recently had a Catterick winner on debut , who cost 16k, sold for £300k and so on. Silver Sword, a multiple winner including in Meydan, an early flag bearer. Prague,a group winner at Sandown last season. He's also trained a chase winner! And of course Mart, who has been some horse for the team...

  • Dylan is desperate to keep him in the yard and would happily keep a leg - he knows he will win plenty more and thinks we should target the All-Weather winter series this year...

The Plan...

  • He's a horse for all-year round, given his versatility and ability to take his racing (as a 3YO he ran x16 over a 9 month period), and with wins on the all-weather, and grass. However...

  • The short term plan for the next few months could be to target the ARC winter All-Weather Bonus, which is worth £100k. This rewards horses who win and are consistent, building up points from mid-Oct, to Good Friday in April 2026. There are monthly prizes for the horse with the most points (£20-40k) and then a grand prize, with the winner receiving £100k, and the 20th ranked horse.. £10k. And everything in between. Last year's winner, Tasever, never won off a mark higher than 66, but did win x4, and finished 2nd x5. His connections picked up £100k first prize, not a bad pay day for a 66 rated handicapper! Picking up a monthly prize would be valuable also, especially from January onwards when worth £40k.

  • We know Mart enjoys winning at Lingfield, Wolverhampton and Newcastle, that he can race plenty, back up, and try. He just has to do his thing really, and we could have some fun! It makes sense to target this series.

  • After that, who knows, some fun in the sun next flat season before the winter rolls around again, a short break here and there.

  • He's a horse who will get us racing plenty, fun days out, and with a horse who knows how to compete, win, and will be doing so many more times again.

  • We may have to go to the public sales and chance our arm, but we will try and sort out a private deal.

Costs...

We think the horse will cost somewhere in the £16-18k region at the top end and I'm not sure we'd want to pay too much more. Given his last purchase cost, what he's done since, and what he promises to do, we think it's good value. Even more so when you consider the prize money already won, his age, profile, relations, and the fact there is no reason he won't keep performing and trying his best. We think running a horse at Dylan's will be very similar to Lemos, so for now we are forecasting the same costs, with the usual approach as set out in all our Agreements. It will be an initial 1 year commitment, as always with first refusal into the next.

We do keep asking a lot of you I know, and at some point we will fall flat on our face! However, we're determined to see Mart in our colours, horse #17, and it would be super if some of you joined in the fun also. Of course this all rests on our bid being the successful one...
