It is increasingly clear to me that one of the ways in which racing can help itself is to ensure that we have a vibrant and healthy Tote. From a funding perspective, the Tote are committed to putting a minimum of £50 million into the sport over 7 years and their crucial contribution to the success of World Pool cannot be underestimated.

24 World Pool days across the UK and Ireland in 2024 (up from 17 in 2023 and there will be more in 2025) will have generated revenue of between £600k and £800k per meeting and much has gone directly into prize money.

York, for example, have committed to put every penny that they receive directly into prize money and the result of that has been that every race at the Ebor meeting is worth a minimum of £100,000 and every race at the track throughout the entire year has prize money of at least £20,000. (I just need to source some RTPS horses to target York!)

This is part of the blueprint for the future of the sport. Significant betting revenues from people spread across the globe feeding into significantly enhanced prize money that benefits all of us. If you would like to read more about how crucial World Pool is, this recent article from Thoroughbred Daily News is well worth a read:

'The Potential to Save World Racing': Views on World Pool Expansion (thoroughbreddailynews.com)

It is increasingly clear that the fixed odds firms, in many cases, view racing as a means of enticing customers through the door, who are then targeted with sports betting more generally along with casino and lottery games.

It also very significant that whilst the fixed odds bookmakers will restrict the accounts (or even close them) of customers who make a profit on horse racing, the Tote, as a pool, welcomes winners and will NEVER restrict or close accounts.

Furthermore, thanks to the SP Guarantee that is a cornerstone of the Tote’s offering, punters are getting real value. As the term suggests, if the Tote win dividend is lower than the starting price, they will match the SP, whilst still continuing to pay the higher dividend on every occasion that it beats the SP.

If you like betting in the big handicaps, and especially those World Pool races, it can be the place to bet also, especially if you have any restriction issues/like a big bet, as often their SP prices are better than Betfair Exchange in such races.

I believe that it is incumbent on horsemen to do all they can to support the Tote; trainers, owners, syndicate members, as well as the true fans of our great sport.

Now, don't get me wrong, I still use standard bookies for a fair chunk of my betting but I have started using the Tote more. Whether you wish to bet unrestricted into the big pools on World Pool days, where there can be juicy prices, or you enjoy playing some of the exotics such as exactas, trifectas, or dabbling on the Placepot day to day, having a Tote Account is a useful weapon in your punting armoury.

To that end, below you will find a link that takes you to a Tote account opening page and you will note that they offer, by way of a welcome, a special Bet £10, Get £30 offer.

I would urge you, if you are someone who enjoys a flutter and do not already have an account with the Tote, to click on the link below and open one, even if using occasionally.

There are some big race days, and big races, coming up in June, and now is the time to get stuck in...

Don't forget, if you bet £10, you'll get £30 in Free Bets, and quite frankly, it's worth opening an account just for that offer.

Remember:

  • SP Guarantee means that if the Tote win dividend is lower than the SP, you will be paid at SP, so bettors will NEVER receive a lower dividend than the Starting Price.

  • The Tote will NEVER restrict winners.

  • The Tote welcomes winners and will NEVER close winning accounts.

  • The Tote will continue to drive the expansion of World Pool days in the UK & Ireland

  • The Tote is committed to putting a minimum of £50 million back into racing over 7 years.

  • Multiple bets introduced (same card multiples).

I've have never to date advertised any 'bookmaker' offers and have no intentions of doing so, but I'm pleased to help promote this offer for The Tote, as they like winners, never close winning accounts, and the Tote World Pool races in particular can offer great punting value, but also help pump valuable prize money back into the sport we all love. That prize money drives up the quality of the racing and gives us a better product to bet on. Winners all round! :)

Thanks for reading, and best of luck turning those £30 free bets into a bigger pot! Hopefully starting at Epsom this weekend, and moving into Royal Ascot!

All the best

Josh
