IFDC Celebrates International Women's Month

For International Women’s Month 2023, IFDC recognizes the immense contributions that women have made to agriculture while also highlighting the unique challenges they face.


By sharing knowledge, building capacities, and improving women’s access to resources,

IFDC works to promote gender parity and women’s economic empowerment on the African content and around the world. Read the story below to meet some women who have benefited from IFDC's work in Africa.

March's Featured Project: DundĂ«l Suuf

The Feed the Future Senegal DundĂ«l Suuf project aims to increase agricultural productivity to foster an inclusive and sustained reduction in hunger, poverty, and malnutrition. DundĂ«l Suuf targets various beneficiaries who have the potential to accelerate the project's expected impact, including women and youth.

Soy Kit: Taking Soybean Value Addition to The Next Level

Value addition can potentially revolutionize Western Kenya's soybean value chain. By promoting the adoption of new technologies like the soy kit, smallholder farmers can improve their livelihoods while providing affordable and nutritious products to low-income consumers.


Fertilizer Microdosing Improves Women's Lives

Neighbors Halimatou Kandé and Fatimata Baldé received training on fertilizer microdosing from the Feed the Future Senegal Dundël Suuf project. Training on this innovative technology helped both women achieve bountiful harvests and financial autonomy.


IFDC Burundi Workshop Celebrates International Women’s Day

The IFDC office in Burundi hosted a workshop celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD). The workshop was based on the theme, “IFDC is pleased to join the celebration of IWD,” and activities corresponded with the national theme for the holiday: “Committed leadership for an innovative digitization of gender equality.”


Promoting Inclusion in South Sudan's Agriculture Sector

To improve social inclusion for women, the A3-SEED project has developed a network of “Inclusion Champions,” composed of successful local business owners, CEOs, agro-dealers, salespeople, and other interested parties who motivate and inspire women and youth to join South Sudan's agriculture sector.


Improving Agricultural Productivity to Reclaim Kenya's Food Basket

The PCB project has been working to address factors such as drought and climate change through the Farmer Field Business School (FFBS) model, which integrates various components to improve farming knowledge, skills, and practices, especially for women. The model promotes gender equity, sustainability, and food security.


A Young Woman Takes Her Business International

With support from the ACMA2 program, which is now in phase three (ACMA3), Sisso Pélagie received training in business management, good agricultural practices, manufacturing techniques for cassava products, and marketing. Thanks to

Pélagie's commitment, her success has crossed international borders.


Preparations Underway for 50th Anniversary

We are currently preparing to celebrate IFDC's 50th Anniversary in 2024.


Since 1974, IFDC has combined innovative research, market systems development, and strategic partnerships to spread sustainable agricultural solutions for improved soil health, food security, and livelihoods around the world.
