“I do this every time,” she tells me.
“What?”
“This!” she says, rummaging through her handbag.
She pulls out a receipt.
Lip balm.
A pen.
Some tissues.
Another receipt.
“No keys.”
Her hands are now full of things.
She shoves them all back into the bag in a clump.
And checks another pocket.
Then another.
Takes half the contents of the bag out, is now up to her elbow in the bag...
“Every single time I need to leave the house, I do this.”
She's laughing, but I can see she's getting flustered.
And now she's running late.
Eventually...
“Aha!”
She triumphantly holds up her keys.
But by then her breathing is faster.
She's irritated with herself.
She feels overwhelmed.
She's rushing.
And she's leaving the house with her nervous system already slightly jangly.
All because of her keys.
It seems like such a tiny thing, doesn't it?
But our days are FULL of tiny things like this.
Little moments of friction.
Things that irritate us.
Things we put up with.
Things that make us rush or swear or sigh or feel overwhelmed.
And because they're small, we don't really think they matter.
But your nervous system experiences your life moment by moment.
So to love yourself more, pay attention to the little things in your life.
Have a think.
What repeatedly makes you go...
Ugh.
That's useful information for you.
When you change those friction moments, life can feel so much better!
This month inside The Portal of Permission, we're exploring the surprisingly powerful world of tiny acts of self-love.
Small adjustments.
Big difference.
If you're craving a gentler, less frustrated life, and you want a very practical way of looking after yourself better, come and join us HERE.
If I loved myself, what tiny irritation would I pay attention to today?
