Subject: Hear The Story of a Frail But Faithful Man Who Followed Christ!

“Here am I, send me; send me to the ends of the earth... send me from all that is called comfort on earth; send me even to death itself, if it be..

Christ’s Commands in Action:

David Brainerd

“Let every preacher read carefully over The Life of David Brainerd.”

–John Wesley

“Here am I, send me; send me to the ends of the earth; send me to the rough, the savage lost of the wilderness; send me from all that is called comfort on earth; send me even to death itself, if it be but in your service, and to promote your kingdom.”

David Brainerd

God answered this earnest prayer of the missionary David Brainerd. Listen in this episode as we reflect on the life of David Brainerd, a frail and often melancholy man who wholeheartedly obeyed Jesus’ call: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Despite sickness, loss, and rejection, Brainerd chose hardship over ease, taking the Gospel to unreached Native American tribes.

Through deep prayer and dependence on Christ, he witnessed powerful revival and lasting fruit. His legacy, preserved in his journals, has inspired generations, including notable names such as Jim Elliot, William Carey, and David Livingstone, who all point to receiving inspiration from David Brainerd’s life. Like Brainerd, may we follow Christ with our whole hearts and be used by Christ for His glory!

Message of the Month

Christ’s Commands in Action

Gabriel Cleator

Do you enjoy the stories of men and women in history whom God used in a mighty way? We invite you to tune in to the second series of the Commands of Christ podcast, “Christ’s Commands in Action”! For the Message of the Month, we are featuring the introduction episode to this new series.

More than historical recollection, this season is a call to follow Christ as others have before us—not by exalting people, but by glorifying God’s working through imperfect, but faithful vessels. These testimonies build our faith, exalt the risen Christ, and offer practical encouragement for how we too can walk as His disciples today.

Listen to the recent podcast episodes and be inspired by the testimony of a worn-out missionary who found abiding in Christ to be the secret to living the Christian life and thereby reached thousands for Christ on the foreign field. Be challenged by the story of a vile, immoral slave trader who was saved by Christ, relied on His empowerment to repent from his old ways, and wrote one of the most well-known hymns of all time. Be encouraged by the account of a sickly, frail young man who wholeheartedly followed Christ, preached the Gospel to the American Indians, and whose life and testimony have touched countless lives.

COMMAND OF CHRIST

Repent

“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 4:17

What does daily repentance look like for the believer? From slave trader to pastor and hymn writer, John Newton’s life shows us that repentance isn’t just something for the beginning of our Christian walk but also for our lifelong sanctification. After his dramatic conversion, Newton continued turning from sin and growing in Christ and being transformed by grace. His life of ongoing repentance reminds us that we are great sinners, but Christ is a greater Savior!
