“Here am I, send me; send me to the ends of the earth; send me to the rough, the savage lost of the wilderness; send me from all that is called comfort on earth; send me even to death itself, if it be but in your service, and to promote your kingdom.” –David Brainerd
God answered this earnest prayer of the missionary David Brainerd. Listen in this episode as we reflect on the life of David Brainerd, a frail and often melancholy man who wholeheartedly obeyed Jesus’ call: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Despite sickness, loss, and rejection, Brainerd chose hardship over ease, taking the Gospel to unreached Native American tribes.
Through deep prayer and dependence on Christ, he witnessed powerful revival and lasting fruit. His legacy, preserved in his journals, has inspired generations, including notable names such as Jim Elliot, William Carey, and David Livingstone, who all point to receiving inspiration from David Brainerd’s life. Like Brainerd, may we follow Christ with our whole hearts and be used by Christ for His glory! |
