New Online Video! - Wanshu / Enpi Bunkai

 

Hi All,

I hope this quick update finds you all in good health and high spirits? The purpose of this email is to let you know that I’ve just added a new video to the website. The short clip was filmed at my dojo yesterday and it shows an application sequence from Wanshu / Enpi kata. You can view it via the following link:

The video shows the basic bunkai sequence. Once the students have drilled the example the kata provides, it is then time to look beyond the example to the underlying principles, to explore all the variations and the various way in which those principles can manifest, and to use the techniques and principles in both semi-live and live drills. I hope the video is of interest.

In other news, the next podcast will also be out soon and it will be called “The Masters Speak!”. It’s a discussion on what I feel are some of the most interesting and revealing quotations from the writings of the masters. As soon as the podcast is live I’ll be sure to let you all know via these newsletters.

This seminar will take place in Chelmsford, Essex from 12 to 4pm. The seminar will cover locking, locking flow-drills, and locking escapes and counters; all from the perspective of the traditional kata. On the 3rd of February, I'll be teaching an open seminar hosted by the Musashi Karate Club. The seminar will be covering karate grappling and drills for generating power at close range (focus mitts can be provided for those who do not have their own). Joint Seminar with Dan Lewis in Oxfordshire – 16th of March

On Saturday the 16th of March I am teaching a joint seminar with Dan Lewis 6th dan. The seminar will run from 10am to 6pm and will be held in Old Mill Hall, School Lane, Grove, Oxfordshire OX12 7LB. This session is open to all grades and styles (adults only) and previous knowledge of the kata being covered is not necessary.
