I hope you are all doing well during these unusual times? For my part, I’m very proud to be part of a community who has sought to keep improving in the most trying of circumstances. I’m seeing dedication, compassion, innovation and enthusiasm from martial artists from all over the globe! The way the community is acting is so inspiring to me! All things eventually pass, and this pandemic will fade away at some point … until then, keep up the great work!

1 – Tandoku Kata Webinar and Certification (This Sunday!)

A fun project to help you improve your close-range striking and anaerobic fitness!

Step 1: Attend this Sunday’s webinar to learn the first half of Iain’s Tandoku kata (solo pad drill kata).
Step 2: Learn the second half of the kata on Sunday the 27th of September.
Step 3: Practise the kata.
Step 4: Provide Iain with footage of you performing the kata.
Step 5: Iain will send you a certificate of competence for the kata.

LOCAL TIME: 2pm UK / 3pm Central Europe / 6am Pacific / 9am US Eastern / Perth 9pm / Sydney 11pm / UTC 1pm (13:00).

RUN TIME: Approximately 1 hour 15 mins.

5 – Super Simple Leg Workout!

A super simple but very effective leg workout for martial artists (from a recent online class). The squats and the kicks must be done smoothly, slowly and with no momentum. Try to keep the muscles working continuously. Take the time to chamber the leg correctly. One set lasts 60 seconds. The first 20 seconds is front kicks; the second 20 seconds is roundhouses at 45 degrees; the final 20 seconds is side kicks at 90 degrees. If that’s too hard, you can reduce the time periods and / or the height of the kicks. Done correctly and smoothly three sets will be enough.

6 – Three Fighting Combinations: Height Switch

A quick overview of three of the fighting combinations we worked during a recent online training session. The theme connecting all of them is switching the height of attack in order to create openings.

1) Low jab, high jab, high cross, front kick to body.
2) Low cross, high hook at an angle, high cross, roundhouse to body.
3) High cross, low stamp, advancing high cross, low roundhouse.
