REWARDING HIGH VALUE CUSTOMERS THROUGH VIP PROGRAMS IS TAUT WITH COMMERCIAL AND REGULATORY TENSION

Paul Newson, Principal - Advisory at Senet and former IAGR President, discusses VIP rewards programs as legitimate tools which recognise and reward customer loyalty. Paul highlights the challenges regulators face when developing frameworks which recognise these rewards programs as lawful and legitimate tools to incentivise customer spend and loyalty, while also mitigate the risk of gambling harm if not designed and implemented effectively.

Paul argues that it is essential for VIP rewards programs to effectively balance rewarding player loyalty and providing superior service for customers that can afford to gamble more, with rigorous protections that advance responsible gambling and prevent and minimise gambling harm.
