Subject: The Sergeants Club | November 2024

Hello,

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving yesterday! Graduation happened last Friday, and almost all of the guys headed home that weekend, so this week has been pretty quiet here on campus. I am looking forward to this furlough, both to rest and also to prepare for next quarter when we have a big 2nd Phase kicking off. The Battalion leadership shows up January 1, and all the guys show up January 4, so we only have a short few weeks to rest, celebrate the holidays, and prep for 2025.

As I look back on the last quarter, I am so thankful for how smoothly it went. The transition between Captain Vanderford and myself felt bumpy at the time, and I am sure it was, but now that it is behind us I am grateful for how well it went. Last Friday we graduated 15 guys from Units 67, 68, 69, and 70. Graduation is always an encouraging event as we get a chance to look back and see the growth from R-Night all the way through the end of 3rd Phase. It is a good reminder of how much God is doing every day.

One of the Grad Week events is Officers’ Coffee on the morning of Graduation. All of the officers get together with the graduates one last time and share a final exhortation as the guys head out. We also try and get prayer requests from the guys as they move into the next phase of life, and I wanted to share them with you so you can join us in praying for these men.

  • LJ Johnson – wisdom planning for the future

  • Charles Goad – discipline to push himself at home

  • Matthew Hill – remember and apply the lessons learned at ALERT

  • Ithiel Park – wisdom for the future

  • Luke Besosa – guidance for the future

  • Peyton Cranson – courage to live righteously at home

  • Nathan Dudley – guidance for the future

  • Daniel Peters – finding community back at home

  • Isaiah Smith – direction for life after ALERT

  • Yareme Warren – difficult family situation

  • Colsyn Martin – guidance for the future

  • Joshua Parker – guidance for the future

  • Jude Mosmann – guidance for the future

  • Charles Kraftcheck – reconnecting back with family after being away

  • Joshua Smith –wisdom for future plans

A couple of other prayer requests for ALERT to share. Next week we are doing our year end meetings, so please be in prayer that they are productive and help set us up well to start 2025. Pray for SMaj. LaBarca and I as we debrief last quarter, review the regulations manual, and prep for next quarter. Pray for Lt. Whitaker as he works on the logistics for Unit 71’s 2nd Phase, and pray that we get a good return of guys from 71 (and guys from previous units who haven’t done 2nd Phase). And pray that the whole ALERT staff would be able to rest over furlough. This year has been a very full year, and we are all feeling the miles.

And yet, God has been so good to us, and we are so thankful.

Posteritatis commodis servientes,

Captain Samuel Winkler | Unit 42

ALERT Battalion Commanding Officer
