Subject: The Sergeants Club | January 2024

Happy belated new year!

This is a big year for ALERT as we celebrate 30 years of ALERT, but more importantly 30 years of God working in the lives of the 2,700+ men who have trained here. We are really excited to look back at the past 30 years, and also look forward to see what God will do in each of our lives over the next 30 years.

Next weekend is the 30th Reunion, and we are sitting in the 650-700 attendee range, which is really encouraging. And also a little terrifying. I've never planned an event of this size or complexity before, and as far as the rest of the staff at ALERT, I think this reunion is twice the size of any event we've done.

As we look toward the Reunion, there are several things that we’d appreciate prayer for:

  • Encouragement for the alumni. As much as we want this weekend to be fun, we especially want to encourage and build up the guys who attend. Whether that happens over the weekend by something a speaker says, or through a reconnection with an old friend that provides encouragement in the years to come, we want the weekend to have a lasting impact beyond just fun memories. Additionally, if possible we would like to repair relationships with guys who may have been hurt by their time here and hopefully help provide some closure and healing.

  • Good weather. With the number of people coming, it will be really hard to bring the events indoors if the weather is bad. Also, we have the Caleb Nelson Memorial Race which involves a lot of time in the lake in February, so warm weather would be great to help offset the cold water.

  • Safety. We have a bunch of ALERT style fun planned, and would love to finish the weekend out with no broken bones or trips to the clinic.

  • Logistics. There are a ton of moving parts during the Reunion, and we need clarity and wisdom as we look at getting everything done efficiently and effectively throughout the weekend to provide the best attendee experience possible.

Finally, you and your families are all invited to the annual Sergeants Club breakfast with the Reunion speakers on Sunday, February 11 at 8 am in the Chapel. If you are able to attend that breakfast, please email me an RSVP with the numbers of people in your party and any dietary restrictions you may have. I can’t promise that I can cover all dietary restrictions, but I will do my best.

I will send out another "official" invitation later, but wanted to drop this in here so you get it on your calendars.

I hope you can all come next weekend and celebrate 30 years of forging men!
