Hello,
The spring ALERT Missions course has been underway for a few weeks now, and they have been immersed into the broad world of missions through teaching and discussion about many specific aspects of missionary life and work. The men have studied the Biblical basis for missions, Gospel foundations, the call to full-time missions work, the Great Commission, terms like “disciple-maker” and “missionary”, and the necessity of developing partners who will pray and invest in one’s ministry endeavor. Their studies and learning are ongoing as they grow in their understanding of the greatest responsibility on earth.
In late April, we have the opportunity to send them to Yukon, Canada, so they can experience and practice what they are learning by working with a missionary who has spent the past three years church planting among a First Nations people (Canada’s version of our term Native American). While they are there, they will be exposed to many of the unique dynamics of cross-cultural ministry, while also doing some practical projects to aid the ministry’s presence in the community. The men will also have a chance to help the missionary family with some of their needed tasks at hand. |
