Hardship is not something I enjoy. But if you asked me when I've grown the most in life, I would have to admit that it was during times of hardship. Often, the things we fear or run from actually are the catalyst for growth and maturity in Christ. Hardships help us realize how weak and finite we are and the infinite mercy of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Peter says it well when he writes, "so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 1:7)
With our students, we often manufacture challenges to help stretch them as we encourage them to rely on the Lord. However, the goal is not to do difficult things just for the sake of being difficult. The goal is to prepare them for a life of service, devoted to Christ, no matter what comes. So, friend, no matter what comes today, lean into Christ and see the sweetness of fellowship that comes, even amid hardships.
