Subject: ALERT Alumni Update | September 2023

September 29, 2023

Dear Alumni,

It's hard to believe that this year is quickly coming to a close. With only eight weeks left in the semester, and much left to be done, please be in prayer for us as we make the mad dash into the holiday season.

Unit 69 is off and running. We had to drop one guy for injury early on, leaving 44 men in training. You can find the prayer calendar at this link. Please pray for the students and the leadership as they finish out the adventure we call Basic Training over the next seven weeks.

Our Missions class has a fantastic trip to Colombia and Panama. Thank you for the prayers and support in making this trip happen for them. They were able to make some great connections in both countries, and work both with the migrants in Panama and women at risk of sex trafficking in Colombia.

Just a quick reminder about Family Camp. It takes place October 7–13 this year, and the ALERT Sergeants Club is hosting an ALERT Alumni party and campfire on Wednesday, October 11. The alumni event is open to all alumni and their families, so make sure to stop by. The Operations department is looking for volunteers before, during, and after Family Camp. If you'd be interested in helping out as a volunteer, or would like to come as a guest, contact Cherith Hendrich at 903-636-9201, or email chendrich@alertacademy.com.

Our 30 Year Reunion is coming up quickly! The dates for the reunion are February 8-11, 2024. The event has an extra day this year so we can fit everything in, and you won't want to miss it! We’ll be doing all the usual events like the mini snake walk and gatorball, along with some additional events this year. One of those events I specifically want to highlight is a special edition of the Caleb Nelson Memorial Race on Friday, February 9. We’ll be running both the normal, 12 mile CNMR, and also a half CNMR for guys who want to participate but aren’t interested in running the full distance. We are also opening the half CNMR up to guys under the usual cutoff of 16, as long as a family member runs with them. So if you have sons or younger brothers under 16 that want to compete, come run the race with them and make some incredible memories together. Bonus points if you can convince a bunch of your unit mates to join everyone here at the 30th Reunion!

For more information on the 30 Year Reunion including the schedule, attendee list, and details on the activities we've got planned, visit the Reunion website at alertacademy.com/reunion. Registration will open on Monday, October 16.

Finally, please be in prayer for the families of Sgt. Nathaniel and RFC Seth Johnson (Units 44 and 50). Their father was diagnosed with cancer this summer, and recently passed away.

 Forge on!
