Subject: The Listening Season starts Sunday! Sign up for a time today!

 

Dear Hot Metal Community, 


This week, we hear the story of Jesus' Transfiguration on the mountaintop - a time when God's presence shines brightly and Jesus' identity as the Beloved is once again affirmed. And God delivers one of my favorite lines (partly because I always hear it with a bit of sass behind it) "Listen to him!"

It is a beautiful Holy Spirit-caused coincidence that this is the text for the day we will kick off Compassion Team's Listening Season, but I'm glad the Spirit did her thing. This reminder to listen both to Jesus and to one another will shape our coming weeks. 


What is a Listening Season? This is a time when our community comes together to share our stories, our passions, our hopes. Our Compassion Team has been trained by community organizers in the art of 1-1 listening, and how to draw out themes and passions based on stories they are told. We hope you sign up to meet with a Compassion Team member to share your story, which will help us determine where our collective story is leading us. Spots are available every Sunday in Lent, and you have the option of telling us when it works for you and we'll pair you with a team member! 


As a note: Team members won't take notes while they are talking with you, but they will write down notes and thoughts afterwards. Those notes will only be shared with the team, and any public report back will not include any specific names or stories, only broad themes we encountered. Anything you share will remain confidential to that group, and if you don't even want it shared that much, just let your listener know (within mandatory reporting laws)! We want this to be a safe experience for everyone!


Ultimately, by listening to one another, we believe we are listening to God, and trying to follow where God leads - whether it will be up tall mountains or into deep valleys, we trust that together we will hear God's voice as clear as on that Transfiguration Day.

Coffee Hosts will show up around 9:30am to make the coffee, set up the coffee station, and greet people as they arrive for worship. After worship, they clean up and wash mugs. Compassion Team's Listening Season - February 19-April 9

The Compassion Team (and friends) will lead us in a Lent-long “Listening Season.” Sign Up for a 1-to-1 conversation with a team member, and share your story, passion, and heart. We have a goal of listening to 66 people! By hearing all our stories, we’ll be able to discern together where the next chapter of Hot Metal is going to go! 


Lenten Nurturing Group - TIME CHANGE to 7:30pm starting on Tuesday, February 28th. 

We'll be discussing "Spiritual Direction" by Henri Nouwen and tackling some BIG QUESTIONS for Lent! Spiritual Direction is a book of collected works from Henri Nouwen, curated by some of the students who knew him best. Offering gentle guidance and wisdom, this book attempts to give wise advice on how to live a deep spiritual life in connection with others. Some of the questions it explores are: Where do I begin? Who am I? Who is God for me? Where do I belong? This book is ideal for anyone who is looking to engage deeper in their faith - whether you are in a place of deconstruction, reconstruction, or anywhere in between - we hope you'll join us! This will be mainly led and facilitated by Nathan Rosswog! Yay!!! Join us using the Sunday Worship Zoom Link!
