HAPPENING AT HOT METAL

Hosanna: Love Demands Courage

HOSANNA: LOVE DEMANDS COURAGE
A PALM SUNDAY PROCESSION OF NEIGHBORS

Sunday, April 13 @ 3 PM

Community of Reconciliation: 100 North Bellefield
(Corner of Bellefield and Fifth Ave, Oakland)

An invitation from The Stone Catchers:

"When Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he confronted both an oppressive political regime and a compromised religious establishment. Feeling the weight of Rome’s boot, throngs of people lined the street to remember who they were: a people called by God, beloved of God, who knew their inherent worth could never be taken from them. Their cry, “Hosanna!” (“Save us now!”) was both plea and joyous refrain.

"Today, the need for authentic Christian witness is urgent. We will not sit by as our immigrant neighbors are hunted and our trans neighbors demonized. On Palm Sunday, we will remember who we are called to be: neighbors who need each other, neighbors who value each other, neighbors who will rise to catch stones thrown at members of our community. We will begin promptly at 3 with a brief liturgy to bless the palms before stepping off, pausing along the way to renew our baptismal covenant and anoint those gathered."

Who are The Stone Catchers? A growing community of energized Christians stepping out into the public square to interrupt spiritual violence & proclaim the power of our scandalous God. (Pittsburgh Presbytery)

🔥 GOOD FRIDAY BONFIRE + POTLUCK

Friday, April 18 @ 6:30 PM

Joni & Luke Watson's House: 2856 Hickory St, Bethel Park, PA 15102

We imagine on the first Good Friday, the disciples might have gathered around a fire to talk through all that had happened, because the best way to get through the unthinkable is together. We have the hindsight benefit of knowing Easter is on the way, but we can still gather around a fire and talk about what Good Friday means to us today. Bring food to share & BYOB.

🐣 EASTER SUNDAY (CHILDCARE PROVIDED)

Sunday, April 20 @ 10:30 AM

Spartan Community Center of Hazelwood (134 E Elizabeth St)

He is risen! Hallelujah! Welcome our new interim pastor, Sally Jo Snyder, on her first Sunday with Hot Metal. Because this is the biggest observance of our faith tradition, we've arranged for childcare for kiddos 5 and under to make it a little easier for families to attend together. (Long-term plans for bringing back the nursery are still in the works, we'll keep you updated.)

If you haven't been to our new space yet and plan to join on Easter, scroll to the bottom of this email to get more comfortable with stepping into an unfamiliar place.

WORSHIP SERVICES NOW IN HAZELWOOD

Sundays @ 10:30 AM

Spartan Community Center of Hazelwood (134 E Elizabeth St)

And on Zoom >>

Every week we typically sing a few songs, share some prayer requests, have a sermon, and share in communion together. ASL interpretation is offered online.

Kiddos are always joyfully welcomed in our service; noises, wiggles, and all! We currently do not have kids’ programming available, but we hope to rebuild our nursery program and kids’ Sunday School in the near future.
