Subject: Curio Liturgy : Week Two

02

Hello Everyone!

I am very excited to offer the second installment of Curio: A Liturgy For the Lean.

Here, you will find two documents. One is Instructions for how to use the liturgy, and some more information on what it includes. The second is the liturgy for Week #2.

The theme of this week is “The Dying.” In life, we experience many kinds of death: death of relationships, or loved ones, or jobs, or expectations. Each of these deaths can feel so final. Each death can feel like the end. And yet, as we look to nature - appropriately, as we see the leaves outside die in preparation for winter - we know that death is never the end. Death is simply preparation for some future stage. Be it Spring, or new relationships, or different job opportunities, or life's roads that we never would have expected, death is a reminder for us to be open to preparation for the next stage, whatever that may be.

Once again, thank you! I am excited to offer this liturgy as a chance for all of us to embrace - rather than reject - the turning and the dying and the waiting. May we learn to embrace paradox and as Henri Nouwen says “live the questions,” the hard questions, instead of running from them or rushing to resolve them. May we be present and realistic; may we have eyes to see and ears to hear. And may we always work for truth, beauty, and the common good.

As you engage with the liturgy this week, please feel free to reach out to me with any thoughts, questions, suggestions, or things you’d like to discuss - I’d love to hear from you! I can be reached at nathan.rosswog@gmail.com or (412) 477-2841.

Be well,

Nathan
