Thanks to all that came out for Santa Paws during the Beaumont Village Holiday Fest! The Beaumont Business Association works hard to put on the Fremont Summer and Winter Fests as a way to thank you, our friends and neighbors, for supporting our great neighborhood businesses. This year’s Holiday Fest was so much bigger than last year’s (Sorry we ran out of hot cider! We'll have more for the sale). Check out all of the great photos from the nights event here. Thanks to you, we raised at least $500 for the Pongo Fund, helping them to get quality food to low income and homeless pet owners. (I've been told that Santa himself might even be matching that. Secret Sale!!! We want to say thank you for your support by offering you, our newsletter subscribers, a chance to save some $$ this holiday season. Please join us this Saturday December 10th from 10-6 and take 15% off of any regularly priced item that isn’t food. “Food” is what you might put into the bowl for a meal (kibbles, cans, dehydrated and raw meals). Everything else counts - treats, toys, chews, beds, cat trees, leashes, collars, supplements, etc. The only trick is, you have to tell us at the register that you’re in on the Secret! We won’t make you do the chicken dance (though we can’t help imagining it as being a requirement, just for our amusement). A little wink and a knowing nod will do the trick! Not everyone will be in on your secret. You may bring your friends if they agree to sign up for our newsletter list! Then they won’t miss out on future secret sales.

| Gift Guide!
The Whole Dog Journal's last issue included a Gift Guide for the season, and a number of their recommendations were products that we carry and love too. Gold Paw Fleece
We have long loved the Gold Paw Fleece. They were created by a pet supply store in Sellwood, and have since grown and expanded their offerings. The fleeces are thin and stretchy but nice and warm. We love how stretchy they are, as it makes them so easy to get in and out of. Whole Dog Journal said they were, “buttery-soft, four-way stretch fabric that moves with your dog, no matter how active or exuberant he is. The fabric is light, adding just enough warmth without the possibility of overheating even an active dog. The design is well-tailored, so even though the coat has no bothersome zippers, Velcro, snaps, or straps, it stays on the dog without shifting, bunching, or rubbing. We threw a toy for our model for an hour, and didn’t have to adjust or straighten his coat even once”. Gold Paw’s products are proudly sewn in the USA and many of the materials are milled here too. They always have an eye to reducing their environmental impact whether that’s including recycled materials in their textiles (the fleeces are 30% recycled) or using biodegradable packaging. The mill itself is bluesign-certified mill (which ensures the mill is audited for energy, water, and chemical usage. We all wish we could all have jammies that felt as soft as these fleece sweaters!!

West Paw is another company that we have been proud to carry and support since our very early days. In 2016, Forbes magazine named them "One of the Best Small Companies in America". Did you ever toss something into the blue cart just because you think the city should be taking it for recycling? Unfortunately, that can cause troubles that might make them toss the whole load. A lot of extra waste is generated during the holiday season, and we thought it might be a helpful thing if people were a little bit more clear on what can and can't go in the bins (and why), tips on where tricky things can be taken around town, and how to better manage Christmas morning unwrapping! Did you know there are Fix-it Fairs around town where a volunteer might fix a small appliance or mend a tear in your favorite shirt? Check it out!

Pongo Fund Holiday Food Drive
Last year we were able to donate 15,550 pounds of food to the Pongo Fund! That’s more than 7 tons of food with a retail value of more than $21,000!! Many cities have a food bank for humans, but a pet food bank of this size and scope is a very unique thing
in this country. There is quite a bit of conversation these days about
the homeless situation in Portland, and the things that are and are not
being done to help. This amazing service makes a big impact for families
facing food uncertainty, both for themselves and their pets. Read some great stories of what the Pongo Fund does here.
Let's do that again! Here's how it works: For the month of December, you can donate a bag at the register by purchasing a 33# bag of Nutrisource Chicken and Rice at our cost of $34.99 (we don't make money on this purchase). In January we'll order all of those bags, and we'll also match one bag for every 5 sold. Our distributor and the Nutrisource company will both be donating one bag for every 12 sold! If you just have a dollar or two in your pocket, feel free to donate that and we'll add it all up and put it towards the purchase of more food. Thanks!!
