Subject: Happy Thanksgiving - Alert for Black Friday hours

Announcement about Black Friday!

Reduced Hours! We're not having a Black Friday Sale, and in fact, we'll be opening late and closing early.
November the 25th is Black Friday - we wish we could join REI's #OptOutside movement, closing for the day, letting our employees spend more time with their families and encouraging people to get outside over the holidays. (Oregon state parks will be waiving all fees!). We thought we might like to close for the day, but we realize that Thanksgiving is a tough time to do this - pets have to eat, and it seems people often run out of things they need right near that holiday. We'll be open from 12-5 on Friday November 25th, so you have a chance to get what you need!

We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving! We are so grateful to you for your support of Green Dog and the other locally owned businesses in Portland.
Saturday is Small Business Saturday - we'd like to give you, our newsletter subscribers, a little gift! Mention the newsletter on Saturday Nov. 26th and get $5 off when you spend $25!

Christmas is Coming!

I know that Christmas is coming isn't really news, but I thought that since I'm sending this out, I'd show you just a thing or two that's new as inspiration for shopping for those hard-to-buy-for pet lovers in your lives. Everyone loves a present that's for their pets! Read On!
Snuffle Mat!

Lots of people know about "slow-feed" bowls for dogs - bowls with obstacles built in to slow down the rate that dogs eat, both to help digestion (though dogs "wolfing" down their food is a natural behavior, some modern dogs have sensitive bellies) and more importantly to create more challenge for their mealtimes. It's hard to keep dogs busy in the winter here, and if you feed kibble, a lot can be done to make feeding time last longer and be a more challenging and enriching activity. The sustainably made Snuffle Mat is so clever - Dogs have a sense of smell 40 times greater than our own, and eyesight
that is far worse than ours. They see the world with their noses, and the Snuffle Mat plays to their snuffly strengths. It's built to stimulate a dog’s natural foraging instincts by mimicking the hunt for food in grass and fields. Just sprinkle kibble or a handful of small treats into the Snuffle Mat and dogs of any size or breed can enjoy snuffling through the mat to find them. It's of course washable and durable! New and Improved Ripple Rug!

The Ripple Rug is definitely one of our all time favorites things for cats. It's a toy that truly creates a lot of enriching fun playtime! They need stimulation, play and novelty in their lives to stay mentally and physically healthy, just like any other animal. This product is a super fun way to stimulate this play and exploration! It consists of a bottom rug that has an insulating rubber bottom that makes it warm to lie on and prevents slipping. The top rug is bendable and floppy with 14 differently sized holes in it (medium to large holes have safety slits for larger cat expansion). There are a number of tabs of Velcro on the underside that let you change the shape of the “ripples” in the rug. Rearranging the rug is a fun time in itself - cats have to check out what you’re doing and often dive in while you’re arranging it. It’s a great place to play in and around. Your wand toys become far more fun when the toy is able to shoot into a tunnel, peek out through a hole, and “run” around through the shapes that the rug makes. Hiding other little toys inside also makes a fun time when they can reach into a hole and get the toy like they would do if hunting a mouse in its hole. This would be the most amazing toy for kittens and adolescent cats, but 15 year old Otis loves to chase toys around the ripples, he loves to scratch it, and he finds great napping spots in the changing shapes of the rug. It folds up nicely if you need to put it away when company comes. Even better, the Ripple Rug is made in the USA using 100% recycled materials and no VOCs. Each Ripple Rug keeps 24 plastic bottles out of the landfill or floating in the ocean! The new improvement is that the top rug is stiffer than it used to be, so holds its shapes so much better! Check out this great video.
Portland Collars and Leashes!

Lodi and Lewi is a great leash and collar company run by a a super nice woman in Washington. She recently designed and printed new ribbons with Portland images - check out the bridges! So cool. These make a great gift!

Holiday Giving

Seasons Feedings! Hopefully these changing times means a greater awareness of how we can step up to help each other in life. Here are a few simple ways:
The Feral Cat Coalition is having its Holiday food drive through the end of the month. Call or come in to buy a 7# bag of First Mate cat food for $7.99 or a 16# bag for $16.99 (these prices are our cost - we make nothing). We'll match one bag for every 5 sold! The food will go to people who have brought stray cats in to be spayed/neutered and who plan to look after them.
The Pongo Fund Holiday Food Drive will start in December! Last year was an enormous success (please read about our historic donation here!) This year we'll be selling 33# bags of Nutrisource dog food for $35 (our cost), and matching one for every 5 sold. Last year Nutrisource and our distributor, Animal Supply company, did some matching too and we're sure they will do something for us again this year.
A Little Favor for Green Dog: All we want for Christmas is to win Spot Magazine's Reader Poll! Please take a moment to vote for Green Dog Pet Supply for “Food Consultant, Pet”, and for “Best Retail Neighborhood Pet Supply Store!” We donate most of our advertising budget to pet rescues and food drives, so this sort of award could help us a great deal through the year. We could really use the business it may generate! The poll ends on Nov. 30th. Thanks so much!
