Green Dog Celebrates 12 great years!
Don't miss the sale! And cake!

Where does the time go? More importantly, how can we ever say thank you enough for your support through the years? It amazes us how many customers that came in to welcome our little business in the very beginning have stayed with us this whole time. You've watched us expand in our old location and then followed us as we moved up the street, and you and your pets have provided us with friendships and a sense of community that we have valued more than we can tell you. Through those years, you've brought us your tiny baby puppies and kittens, and we've had the unique privilege to be a part of their lives as they grew and matured, often developing close friendships with them and with you. There is part of that process that can be difficult, but it's one we hold dear - to stand with you and do what we can to help as they face challenges in life, and to support you as you face the heartbreak of their loss. We knew when we started that we would face loss, but the number of times our hearts have been broken is sometimes overwhelming. However, more often than not, some time passes and we see you again with a new little life in your hands and we are thrilled to help you begin again. What a special job we have! We want so much to let you all know, whether you are just finding us now or have been with us through the whole journey, that we are so honored to have your support.

I’m also feeling a little nostalgic, as I do every year around this time, as our store's anniversary and our wedding anniversary fall pretty close together. Weddings are on my mind even more this year, as this September Mike and I celebrated our 25th anniversary. A few weeks later, our own long time employee Sarah Rae got married, and on the heels of that, our manager Sarah J. is celebrating her first year of marriage. Not only that. but Becky is expecting her second baby, and it's a girl this time! We always pictured ourselves with a little store and maybe an employee or two, and now we have a big staff full of interesting and amazing people, and we also feel lucky to know them and stand by them as they move through their lives. We really have found  people who truly care about what they do and are always working so hard to educate themselves so they can help you more. So much to be grateful for!

To show you our gratitude, we'd like to offer you 20% off and a big cake!! On Saturday October 15th, you can take 20% off of any full priced items that aren't pet food (stuff you'd put in their bowl for a meal). This means all treats, chews, leashes, collars, supplements, toys, beds, cat furniture, etc are 20% off, include anything you special order! Check out our discount table - there are deeper discounts there on some great products. Help us make room for Christmas stuff! Oh yes - and a giant cake! This sale is not a secret, so make sure to tell your friends to come on down.

Happy Fall!
Beware - There Be Monsters!

The days have gotten shorter and it's getting darker - make yourself visible!
We have a good selection of
lights to hang on collars, a flashing strip that attaches with Velcro to a collar, leash or harness; light-up and reflective collars, and check out the photo above to see how visible this Cycle Dog reflective leash makes both you and your dog (and they're available in 4 reflective colors)! We also have another leash that glows and reflects! Don't forget how handy the flashing lights are for kids when they Trick or Treat, or for anytime they might be out after dusk - clip them right to a zipper or backpack.

Playtime doesn't have to stop after dusk - We have glow-in-the-dark balls and flying discs, as well as balls that light up using replaceable batteries.
Green Tip:
you can bring us your old coin cell batteries to recycle, or drop them off at "Batteries Plus Bulbs" at 3008 NE Broadway. Here's a great link for finding recycling drop off points for any kind of battery.

We have such fun Halloween toys and cookies this year
! Also, don't forget the cool locally made costumes for dogs (angel wings, bat wings, witches hats, and more). Come check them out before they're all gone!

Holy Cow These Are
Fantastic Treats!!

So this company sent us samples of their treats to try, and every dog went, "What the WHAT?!" Dogs were crazy for them. We had to order them right away. They might just be the most exciting treats in the store! They're these soft, pliable, deliciously fragrant strips made from chicken and/or turkey that you can tear so easily into tiny training treat-sized pieces if you like. Dogs really were nuts for them, even a few that never ever take our best treats. We also brought in some of their crunchy biscuits in 4 flavors (pictured below) which each smell so delicious and dogs are really loving them too. The sourcing is nice - all USA sourced and made, cage free, free range, grass fed, and all of these products are grain free. Honestly - don't miss these amazing treats!
Time To Celebrate?
Locally made Pupcakes are now available in our freezer for a doggie birthday treat, or just for your special doggie who deserves something nice today. They're grain free (ingredients: apple, peanut butter, egg, coconut and baking powder) and they come with coconut flakes on top and a candle! They're so delicious you could most certainly share one with your dog.
Stuff It!
Made right here in Portland, these jars contain a delicious filling for Kong-type toys. They'd also be a nice whole foods mix-in to add nutrients and deliciousness to a meal of kibble, or add a spoonful to help recovery from a little bout of loose stool. It has a gorgeous ingredient list: Pumpkin, Unsweetened Applesauce, Unsweetened Coconut Flakes, Raw Local Honey, Cinnamon, and Chamomile. So delicious! Pro Tip: Freeze these and other moist foods (yogurt, cooked sweet potato, canned foods) in your Kong to make the chewing last much longer!
The Foobler is Back!
These amazing treat/kibble dispensing balls were a little hard for us to get a hold of for a time, and we're happy they're back just in time for winter. Six chambers hold up to 2 cups of kibble. A battery powered motor that can be set on a timer moves the chambers every 15, 30, 60, or 90 minutes to allow the dog access to its contents. When they hear the bell, they can then roll it around to get the treats/kibble to fall out. It's a fantastic way to help to occupy dogs who stay home alone, or to occupy dogs on a rainy day. We have a sample to show you how it works - come check it out!
More Awesome Treats!
We are so pleased that Open Farm has created a line of sustainable and humanely raised treats! Open Farm pet food is the first in the nation to use entirely humanely raised meats (certified by a third party) and other ethically sourced ingredients. In the age of factory farming, antibiotics and hormones, crowding, and over-fishing, it's hard to know whether you're doing the right thing when shopping for your little carnivores. It's been our mission for 12 years to always be on the hunt for products like these. We are proud to support their efforts and hope that you will too (check out this coupon for their foods). These new treats are just what dogs love - they're meaty and delicious, gently dehydrated, and they're all certified humane as well! Available in Chicken, Turkey, Beef, Pork and Cod.
RAD CAT SALE!
We've sold Rad Cat since our first year in business, and it's definitely one of our very favorite products (personally, if I had to choose just one, it would be this brand). They've never offered a special before, and we're happy to tell you that starting Friday Oct. 21st, Rad Cat Chicken and Turkey flavors (any size) will be 10% off! We'll continue the special for 30 days. Due to limited freezer space, if you're interested in cases, we ask you to schedule a time with us to pick it up.
