We're So Grateful For Your Support!
Hello! We want to let you know that we've recently gotten together to discuss the idea of allowing people in the store without masks, and after careful consideration, we've decided that it would make sense to postpone this decision for now, given the fact that this is the time of year that we predictably get a spike in Covid cases. We talked with a variety of customers, some who were interested in being able to skip the masks, but many of them said that they come to us because they feel safer coming to our store than many other stores. One man gave a convincing argument for households with multiple children, as he said that when someone in their house has Covid, it is very disruptive to their lives as it takes so long for the rest of the people living there or in their social circle to cycle through the sickness, including their neighbors and their kids that catch it too. He says he tries to frequent stores that have more cautious policies to cut their risk. We have several employees that tell us how grateful they are for these policies, as we do often see close to a hundred people per day. We've decided to wait until cold and flu season is over to consider trying a mask-optional policy.
THAT BEING SAID, we're excited to let you know that the staff feels comfortable with the idea of a storewide pre-Christmas sale! (JUST LIKE PRE-COVID DAYS, only with masks!) WOO HOO!

“Food” is what you might put into the bowl for their meal (kibbles, cans, dehydrated and raw foods). Everything else counts, meaning treats, toys, chews, beds, cat trees, leashes, collars, supplements, etc. ar all on sale! We've missed having these sorts of sales and the fun atmosphere it creates. We look forward to seeing you and are so happy to say thank you for your support by giving you all this opportunity to save some cash for the holidays!
Please try and remember to bring your own masks to help us offset the tremendous expense of providing masks for everyone, not to mention the volume of waste it creates.

Note: A New Clinic called Heart and Soul has opened at 315 NE Killingsworth. They are not a 24/7 emergency clinic and don't take walk-ins, but they could be a very valuable resource as they do have urgent care 7 days a week, or if your regular veterinarian is booked up. We've heard very nice things about them! More on how it works here.
IN OTHER NEWS:. An alert was sounded by E.W.G. and Truth About Pet food regarding the dangers surrounding PFAS chemicals found at very high levels in the lining of certain pet food bags (by companies like Purina) and in baby textiles.(Don't miss the short video on this E.W.G. baby textiles page - it's a bigger problem than many people realize and it affects us all. I want to assure you that we've been in touch with our vendors and made sure that none of the companies we stock are using this heinous practice. |

| | SEASON'S FEEDINGS!
Every year we do a Food Drive for The Feral Cat Society of Oregon in November, and for The Pongo Fund in December. Often other stores encourage customers to buy a bag from their shelves to be donated, but we have always felt strange about making any sort of profit off of a donation. Instead, we sell two sizes of First Mate dry foods at our cost. Small bags are $11.99 and large bags are $21.99. We don't make any money on these transactions. First mate is not only one of our most affordable brands, but they also help by matching part of our donations.
These donations go far to help the missions of these excellent charities and support the animals that need it the most. Traditionally, the Feral Cat Food drive bags have been gift to the volunteers that trap feral cats and bring them in for spay and neuter, and the food offsets their costs for supporting those neutered feral cats that cannot be adopted. |

We're often not ready for it, especially when it comes to remembering that there are dwindling amounts of available daylight for walking in the evening. I get so worried when I see people in dark clothing walking their dogs in nearly or completely dark streets without any visibility gear!
