A Few Warnings for Pet Parents

Flea and Tick

Ticks are on the rise this year, we've had two reports of dogs with 15-20 ticks on them after walks in popular spots: Powell Butte and Thousand Acres Dog Park. Just a quick touch of the tall grass deposited several ticks. Make sure your pet has active flea & tick prevention going! Wondercide spray is great to apply to dogs right before you go walking, and their Spot on Formula will provide another layer of protection all month long. When it comes to natural flea and tick remedies, it's important to use multiple layers of prevention. Don't forget outdoor kitties too! Cheristin is our go to flea treatment for kitties. Be sure to check your pets' armpits and groin area when you get home.

Foxtail/Cheatgrass

Foxtails are growing fast, now is the time to pull them before they drops seeds! Don't let them get brown and hurt your pet! Foxtail and cheat grass seeds can cause ear, eye, and paw infections...sometimes bad enough to kill pets. The grass barbs work their way through the skin and eventually into the chest cavity, spine, or organs.

Here are a few signs to look out for if one does get embedded: inflammation, redness, constant scratching, limping, and frequent licking of paws. Try to keep your dog from spending time in fields with weeds and wild grasses. After time outdoors, always check your pet for barbs. Brushing their coat thoroughly and looking for signs of irritation in your pet can help prevent issues.

Thanks to one of our customers for sharing this helpful guide on removing these pesky plants. Follow this guide to remove them for good.
