Hi Friend,

Last weekend the Sun entered Virgo marking the beginning of this year’s Virgo season. Virgo is often ‘affectionately’ known as ‘the sign of the stomach ulcer’ and there can definitely be a tendency at this time of year for things to get a bit manic. People born under this sign are said to be predisposed towards neurosis. (If you do have personal planets in Virgo, don’t worry about being neurotic)! Yet the nature of the Universe is peace. All of Nature’s magnificent processes unfold in peace and silence. At the deepest level, peace IS who you are. Who we are.

Everything in manifest existence (including ourselves) arises from, and returns to, this deep, deep, peace. This peace is not sterile. It is fertile, alive… filled with potential, and most of all, it is awake. Conscious. It IS the deeper Universal Consciousness that some would call God.

But if we are a part of this deep peace, and it is an inherent part of our nature, what keeps us from experiencing it as part of our everyday lived experience? Our conditioning. Our habits, impulses, compulsions and predispositions...

From an astrological perspective, these impulses are symbolized by the 12 zodiac signs. In a sense, we might say that the 12 signs are 12 types of ‘mind’, like 12 computer ’programs’ that drive us at personality level, and keep us from experiencing the deeper truth of our being.

If you have personal planets in Virgo for example, you may have a great capacity for analysis. You may be an ace at taking something apart, either physically or mentally, in order to understand the finer details of how it all fits together. This can be a great talent, which can serve you on many levels, yet it can also be a distraction from the deeper truth of your being.

Where do these predispositions come from?

In Buddhist philosophy there is the concept of ‘cyclic existence’. We can understand this best by observing nature: a ripe apple falls from the tree and bursts open onto the soft earth. The seeds work their way beneath the soil where they are warmed and kept safe while they germinate. In spring as the ground warms up, and they are moistened by melting snow and spring rain, the seeds burst open and the first shoots seek the light of day above ground. Over time the seedling grows healthy and strong and becomes an apple tree. Soon it is bursting with fruit and it isn’t long before a ripe apple falls from the tree and bursts open onto the soft earth…

In much the same way, astrology is telling the story of cycles of human existence. Our predispositions can become self-perpetuating cycles. The more we analyze, the more we want to analyze. Left unchecked it becomes a habit, a compulsion and a predisposition. When we understand the process of cyclic existence, we can see how it is likely that we are born at a certain time and place because the prevailing conditions match our pre-existing energetic blueprint. Are you more predisposed towards analytical processes because you were born when the Sun was in Virgo? Or is it likely that if you have those tendencies already, you may be born when the Sun is in Virgo because the prevailing conditions are a vibrational match for you?

If you have a compulsion, any compulsion, it will pull you away from the deep peace at the center of your being, that IS your own true nature. Try sitting in meditation and watch this process unfold for a while. If you have personal planets in Gemini the compulsion maybe to follow your thoughts and your inner conversation. In Virgo you may find yourself analyzing. In Sagittarius you may find yourself constantly seeking answers outside of yourself, and so on and so forth.

What distracts you in meditation may be the very thing that keeps you from experiencing the depths of your being, and it is likely to be in the nature of your Sun, Moon and/or Rising Sign.
(Yes, until you have a certain level of consciousness you will experience the personality expression of your Rising Sign rather than the Soul expression).

So what to do? Exercise the power of choice!

Simply watch. In your meditation keep returning to the still point inside, and watch from there. You can learn much about your personality signs by simply sitting and watching the impulses as they rise and fall, without following them.
Once you can watch your impulses without following through, you are breaking the cycle and this makes a huge difference because it gives you the power of choice.

Once you become adept at this, you can remain ‘at peace’ as you go through your day. Then you will become the Master of your mind rather than it’s servant, you will discover and understand the deeper dynamics of your personality and soul signs… and (best of all) you can reclaim your birthright by living your life in peace!

That's all for now! See you next week and, in the meantime...  happy exploring!

Best Wishes,

Ruth
