Life's Greatest Adventure! September 2nd 2015 Hi Friend, Astrology is all about cycles. Cycles of time. Cycles in Nature. Energy is constantly moving in waves and cycles. If there’s one thing we can observe about Life, it is the sense of constant movement. Yet in our human mind we tend to think of things as fixed. In particular, people. We form an impression of someone and then we tend to think that is how they are, forever. This idea that our personality is somehow ‘fixed’, or cast in stone seems to be a particularly Western concept. In many Eastern traditions, Tibetan Buddhism in particular, one’s ‘personality’ is not seen so much as something that is fixed but rather something that is fluid and constantly changing. Indeed it is our capacity for change that gives us the most hope for enlightenment! If we couldn’t change we’d be stuck as we are and there’d be no point in doing any practice towards self-realization! In Soul Astrology it is thought that our Soul is on a journey and that the 12 zodiac signs can be seen as ‘stages of development’ on that journey. In Esoteric Astrology the Tibetan Master said that the Soul begins in Aries as a ‘point of light in the mind of God’, and then unfolds in it’s development through each of the 11 remaining signs through to Pisces. We can have up to eight incarnations in each sign, so this gives us a sense of the unfolding cycle of our Soul journey. Rather than each sign being distinct and separate from the others we get more of a sense of a rolling wave, and gentle and natural unfolding from one to the next. When people are born on the cusp, just as one sign is moving into another, there can often be great concern to pinpoint exactly which sign they were born under, yet the truth is really a bit of both. In this unfolding process of the Soul’s journey if your Rising Sign (Ascendant) is at the end of one sign, just as it’s about to go into the next sign, it means your Soul has completed one stage of it’s development and is transitioning to the next. You will have a certain ‘mastery’ of the qualities of the sign that is completing, and you will already begin experiencing some of the challenges of the next sign. When it comes to Virgo Season there always seems to me to be a busy-ness around this time of year. I often experience a feeling of there being so much to do and not enough time to do it. And not just in terms of projects I’m already committed to, but in terms of opportunities for things I would like to do, and don’t seem to have time. I recently came across the term ‘opportunity cost’, which feels like an appropriate term to describe the transitional phase of moving from Virgo into Libra. In economics, the term opportunity cost describes the cost of ‘losing’ alternatives when a choice is made. We can’t do everything, so whenever we choose to focus our time, energy and attention in a particular area, we are also ‘losing’ other opportunities. So we need to make our choices wisely to ensure we are focusing on those opportunities that will be of most benefit for all concerned. As our Soul journeys through the 12 signs, in Leo we experienced heart-centeredness, and individuality. We realize that is is through our individual experience that our heart-center awakens. Now in Virgo we are directing our heart energy for the betterment of humanity. Virgo is the sign of service.  If you have personal planets in Virgo, in particular Virgo Rising, you may well be familiar with the compulsion to be of service. To move forward into the world in very practical ways that are helpful to others and beneficial for humanity. But it isn’t long before you realize you can’t be all things to all men! There is an ‘opportunity cost’ - for every project you get involved with, you realize that there are other projects which could equally be beneficial and you just can’t do everything, otherwise you spread yourself too thinly and nothing comes to fruition. This is also why Virgo is the sign associated with ‘occupation’ for it is in Virgo that we start to make distinctions between the value of the various activities that could occupy our time. For example, is playing Facebook games for the next eight hours going to be as beneficial to the collective consciousness of humanity as eight hours spent in deep meditation? It is in Virgo that we develop the finer quality of discernment, however it is really in Libra that we perfect the art of decision-making. The sheer volume of potential activities that occupy us in Virgo, combined with the realization that they may not all be of equal value, brings us squarely to the gate of Libra. At personality level Libra has the often unfair reputation of being indecisive! This is actually not true. When she wants to be, Libra can be as decisive as her opposite sign Aries, but given the opportunity she would rather take her time over a decision. Why? Because for Libra the most important thing is to understand the ethics involved in the process of decision-making. Ethics in a broad sense is the science of choosing ‘right from wrong’. We might think of it as the science of making decisions. For Libra it is important to understand how we arrive at a good decision. And what IS a ‘good’ decision? For Libra it is the one with the most harmonious outcome. So of all the ‘opportunities’ that present to us, Libra needs to consider carefully which one will lead to the most balanced, harmonious outcome for all concerned. By considering the zodiac signs in terms of stages of development in this way, we can see how one sign is not ‘separate’ from another but rather they roll into one another as one sign picks up where the previous sign left off. And so it continues through each spiral of the zodiac cycle, taking us ever onwards to the next stage of our Soul’s development! That's all for now!
