Our Donation Drive for June is SECOND HELPINGS. They share: “Hunger is a serious problem. Without food, we can’t focus on work. Our children can’t develop the healthy bodies and minds they need to succeed in the classroom. One in 7 Hoosiers is hungry. In Central Indiana, the problem is even more severe for seniors and children, where 25% of residents face food insecurity. Second Helpings is a community kitchen that prepares and delivers more than one million meals to the Central Indiana community each year. We’re not just teaching people to cook. We’re providing an avenue for people to transform their own lives. We don’t just collect food. We rescue food, because we refuse to stand by and allow waste, while so many in our community do not have the healthy food they need to thrive. Second Helpings provides a free Culinary Job Training program, which prepares unemployed and underemployed adults for careers in the food service industry.” Those we serve have a regular need for spaghetti and elbow macaroni, perfect ingredients for the casseroles that women, men, and children enjoy.
