Georgetown Market will be one of many drop-off locations for our customers, community folks, and staff to donate gently worn, used and new shoes. If you or someone you know is doing a spring cleaning project, clearing out their closets, invite them to bring any unwanted shoes to GM and place them in the donation bin. The shoes will be donated to Funds2Orgs, who work with micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries to create job opportunities.
Did you know that an estimated 300 million people around the world donāt own shoes? And since the major mode of transportation for most of the worldās population is walking, usable, gently worn shoes are desperately needed! Your shoe donations can help lift folks out of poverty, around the world. Here is more about Funds2Org: https://funds2orgs.com/impact/.
Funds2Orgs will then donate the money they receive from the donated shoes to PEAK Animal Sanctuary in Freedom, Indiana. āPEAKā stands for āPeople Earth Animal Kinship.ā PEAK Animal Sanctuary is a safe haven for neglected and abused farm animals. PEAK advocates for veganism and a peaceful coexistence among all species. You can learn more about their work here: https://www.peakanimalsanctuary.org/about-peak.
So, this fundraiser is a win-win-win: 1. Keep unused, unwanted shoes out of landfills and give them a new purpose. 2. Improve the lives of millions of impoverished people, worldwide, by providing inventory for their microbusinesses. 3. Provide shelter, food, and veterinary care for dozens of rescued farm animals, allowing them to live their best lives. |
