My kids are already asking me,
“Is it time to bake gingerbread cookies?” And the gift catalogs have started arriving...Hurry, hurry! We really should get our Christmas shopping done early this year.
But, with all the excitement around us at this time, none of it was ordained by God, not even Christmas. Yes, God did ordain the Nativity, or birth of Jesus, but never the glitz, glamour, and spending spree of this completely separate event known as Christmas.
When God sent His son into this world, it was quietly and humbly and in the poorest of conditions. It was the true gift of this season, that this baby would one day unite us with God. It’s also a reminder that GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES!
Don’t get me wrong, football, food and presents are fun! But that’s not where God intended our all-consuming frenzied focus to be. There actually are a few Autumn holidays that God did ordain, quietly left behind and forgotten about by most of the world. They are called the Fall Feasts and they point to God’s awesome plan for us, in that JESUS IS COMING BACK!!! This is yet another promise that we have. GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES! (Woo-Hoo!)
So as the pressure of the holidays begins to build, let’s focus on God’s true seasonal messages to us. God promised to send us the gift of Jesus, which He did, and…Jesus is coming back AGAIN!
When Jesus first arrived, the angels said, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests!” (Luke 2:14) This season I pray you will have peace and the assurance that His favor rests on you!
