GEA Spring Conference Registration Web Page Is Now Live

The GEA Registration Web Page is now available to register for the Spring Conference in Savannah at the Westin Savannah Harbor Resort and Spa.

We are finalizing an exciting and interesting presenter group with the focus on Workforce Development and Legal Updates.

Specific information on topics and presenters will announced next week.  The schedule is as follows:

Sunday, March 31:
12:00 PM – Golf at the Harbor Club
If you are interested in playing in the golf tournament, please email Buddy McGehee, director@georgiaemployers.org, so we can book tee times and build teams. Lunch will be provided.
For those that would like to spend some time in the Spa, we have arranged for discounted Spa rates with the Westin Spa staff for our guests. Specific Spa details to follow.

"Toxic Employees - Everyone Has One"

GEA is pleased to partner with Pete Tosh, The Focus Group, to present a half day workshop on "Managing Toxic & Other Employees Who Have Attitude Issues on Wednesday, February 27.  The workshop will be held in the Cherry Blossom Room, located on the 16th Floor of the Fickling Building, 577 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201.  The workshop will begin promptly at 9:00 am and end at 1:00 pm.  

Surveys show that 95% of employees say they have worked with a toxic personality and 65% of those respondents are currently working with one.  The toxic employee issue is prevalent and damaging on both an interpersonal and organizational level.  We will be covering the following topics:
  • Addressing Toxic Employees through Attitudes, Behaviors & Consequences
  • Common Reactions to Toxic Employees Which Frequently Don't Work and Can Make Matters Worse
  • Organizational and Managerial Initiatives Proven to be Effective at Addressing & Preventing Toxicity
  • Characteristics Shared by Team Players
Registration will be open next week for this interesting and exciting workshop.  The cost of the workshop is $125.00 for GEA members and $150.00 for non-members.

Pete Tosh, The Focus Group, is a well known speaker and has worked in the HR field and presented programs with the American Management Association plus consulting, presenting training programs hr audits and reviews, employee engagement programs/surveys and executive coaching for a long list of companies including Blue Bird, Briggs & Stratton, Cracker Barrel, Erlanger Medical Center, GE Capiital, Marathon Patroleum, Sun Trust, US Forest Service, Time Magazine, State Farm, Weyerhauser, YKK, Coliseum Hospital, etc.

  • HR Dive is reporting that a prolonged  shutdown could delay the updating and opening ofthe EEO-1 portal.
Walmart Applicants Background Check Suit
  • HR Dive is reporting on a California district court certifying a class of approximately 5 million (yes million) who once applied to Walmart in a suit alleging background check violations.
  • The lawsuit alleges that Walmart willfully included extraneous information in disclosure forms and procured investigative reports without informing class members of their right to request a written summary of their rights under federal and California law.
