Most of Us Gravitate Toward Applicants Like Us – But That’s Not the Objective

The importance of an organization’s interviewing and selection process can’t be over-stated since it significantly impacts everything of importance – employee engagement, culture, productivity, customer satisfaction, growth and profitability. Gallup recently stated that the most important decisions a company makes is who they interview and select to be their managers.

And, of course, the effectiveness of that process can be no greater than the quality of the interviews themselves. Sometimes there is an assumption that because a person has the title of manager he/she knows how to conduct effective interviews and make appropriate hiring decisions.

Unfortunately, many managers have to learn to interview by trial and error – struggling through their first experience interviewing and continuing to repeat whatever approach they used in future interviews. They have not been afforded the opportunity to learn a proven, step-by-step interviewing and selection process.

Just as an organization’s success is significantly influenced by the people it employs, a manager's success is largely dependent on the performance of his/her team. Being able to effectively interview and select team members is a critical skill for any manager. And the further a manager's career progresses the greater the need for this skill. Lacking effective interviewing skills can limit a manager's career advancement.

Some experts say that "the typical interview" - conducted by an untrained interviewer - is often no better than chance at predicting how an applicant will perform on the job. Interviewers need a proven methodology for obtaining relevant information & assessing it – they need to know what to look for & how to gain that information.

GEA is here to equip you with the HR and leadership tools to further succeed. Employer Correction Request Notices (EDCOR)

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced in March of this year the return of the Employer Correction Request Notices. The SSA stated on it’s website the intention of maintaining the accuracy of earnings records used to determine benefit amounts to ensure customers get the benefits they have earned.

The SSA began mailing notification to employers identified as having at least one name and Social Security Number (SSN) combination submitted on wage and tax statement (Form W-2) that do not match existing records.

The letter is to advise employers that corrections are needed in order to properly post its employee’s earnings to the correct record.

The following SSA website provides resources and free online tools to assist with accurate wage reporting, including how to register for Business Services Online (BSO) and how to view and correct name and SSN errors. You must have a BSO account first, and then complete the activation code process to be granted access to view name and SSN errors.
