| VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL MISSIONARIES MEETING TUESDAY, MAY 28, 2019 - 1:00PM!
AN ETERNAL AND PERENNIAL TRUTH of life within any local congregation is the reality that it is up to all of us, not just a child's family, to introduce the next generation to the love of God through Christ our Lord.
To this end, THANK YOU to everyone who has already committed to helping out with this year's Vacation Bible School. We have yet to meet anyone in our church who does not believe it is essential for the church to do whatever needed to help kids know Jesus, and it is in this spirit that you are invited to join Ashley Carpenter at 1:00 TOMORROW (May 28) to get an overview of this year's VBS and nail down some of the nuts-and-bolts logistics as VBS is not that far away! THIS IS WHAT CHURCH IS ALL ABOUT
As many of you know, over the past several years we have been fortunate to have Johnny Muma and his fiancée Sarah Miller (along with their son LJ) as part of our church family. Johnny is involved in a little bit of everything as our custodian while Sarah does good work as part of our Methodist Children's Learning Center team. They have truly experienced God's grace and love through you, the people of First United Methodist Church, as you have embraced them and led them to a life of Christian faith and discipleship through your example.
This Sunday, June 2, we will be celebrating the baptism of Johnny, Sarah, and LJ as part of our worship service. Immediately thereafter, Johnny & Sarah will exchange their wedding vows. Yes, this is precisely a fine way for a couple to join in Holy Matrimony, as a service of Christian marriage is not about being a production, or being an 'event', or pretty much everything we obsess over when it comes to the nuptial rituals - the exchange of vows is an act of worship, and a part of our communal worship. No, this does not mean Sunday's service is a wedding ceremony - far from it. Much as baptism, communion, offerings, and more are responses to the word being read and proclaimed, so, too, is a couple choosing to enter into Holy Matrimony.
After our worship service is concluded, all are welcome to join us for a brief, informal reception in honor of the Muma family as they begin their lives as baptized Christians and a family joined in Holy Matrimony. |
