IT'S OBVIOUS
TOLD YA SO - IT'S OBVIOUS

IN THIS SECOND WEEK OF ADVENT 2018, we continue our theme of, "Told Ya So!" which invites us to hear from the prophets who centuries - literally centuries - before Christ's arrival pointed to a future of hope in the promise of the Messiah.

This week's prophetic word comes from one of the so-called 'Minor Prophets' (don't let the nomenclature fool you - there was NOTHING minor about these guys) - Malachi, who for many is most known as the last of the Old Testament books, and one of the shortest.

Building upon Jeremiah's message from last week, where we were pointed to look for our hope not in our current circumstance but in the future, Malachi's is a message of assurance that, indeed, the promised Messiah is coming. Malachi's is a message of splendor, preparing his hearers for the reality that what will be when the Messiah comes is simply beyond any and all human comprehension, which is why we are called to live a life of hopeful faith. Malachi's is a message that when the Christ is present, there will be transformation.

Why does this matter? Simple. Much like the faithful of the old, we, too, are watching and waiting. Watching and waiting for the Messiah's second coming, which is much like the wait for his first coming in that the only thing we know for sure is that the Messiah is coming. It's obvious, for by looking at the prophetic witness of old, and the fulfillment of that prophetic witness, we worship a God who keeps promises.

Let us draw upon that reality now and always.

Grace and Peace,
Lamar
MALACHI 3:1-4

See, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple.

The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight--
indeed, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.

But who can endure the day of his coming,
and who can stand when he appears?

For he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap;
he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver,
and he will purify the descendants of Levi
and refine them like gold and silver,
until they present offerings to the LORD in righteousness.

Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem
will be pleasing to the LORD as in the days of old
and as in former years.
