Hello Friend,

The other morning, I was just minding my business, letting Sandy and Bobbin (our shop’s resident poodle and doodle duo 🐩🐕) out for their morning romp.

If you’ve been to the shop, you know we have those big double glass doors. Well, there I was, standing at the door, basically nose-to-glass, when I saw something move right in front of me.

I jumped back like I’d seen a ghost! 👻

Turns out, it wasn’t a ghost at all. Nope. It was a praying mantis — and not just any praying mantis. This little guy had attitude.

I swear, in my mind, I could see him raise those tiny bug arms like, “Come at me, lady!” 🥊

He didn’t run. He didn’t flinch. He just stood there like he was defending his turf.

So, I figured, fine. You do you, buddy.

I left for a bit, did some light cleaning, and came back a few minutes later to check if the dogs were ready to come inside.

And wouldn’t you know it?

That little fighter was STILL there, holding his ground like a seasoned bouncer at a quilt show. 😂

The dogs came running back, happy as ever. I opened the door, and in one swift move, Mr. Mantis hopped down, skittered across the floor, and dashed outside as if to say, “Victory is mine!”

Sandy and Bobbin pranced in like royalty, completely unfazed, while I was left standing there, shaking my head and laughing.

So what’s the lesson here?

Sometimes life throws you a praying mantis moment — completely unexpected and a little startling.

You can either panic… or step back, laugh, and let it run its course.

Kind of like quilting, right? One wrong cut or tangled thread can feel like a fight waiting to happen, but if you keep your sense of humor, you’ll stitch your way through it.

Here’s to a weekend full of smooth stitches, friendly critters, and zero surprise standoffs at your door. 😉

Happy quilting,

Donna
