Happy Friday, Friend,
If you live in Texas, you already know the rule:
If it snows or freezes, we do not go anywhere.
No ice driving. No heroics. No shame. We stay inside and wait it out like seasoned professionals.
Fox Country Quilts was no exception.
For the past several days, me, Chip, and the humanals (that’s humans + animals) have been holed up inside with only brief, highly strategic outdoor dog runs. The shop was technically closed… but not exactly quiet.
You know that sound a building makes when the temperature changes?
The creaks.
The pops.
The heaters kicking on and off like they’re clearing their throats.
Sometimes it was quiet enough that you could hear everyone breathing.
No one admits to snoring.
We will not be taking questions.
There was sewing machine noise, though. And phone calls. And yes, I was actually working. Because apparently being snowed in does not override that particular setting.
Now that things have thawed a bit, Texans are emerging from their homes blinking at the daylight… and y’all are starting to come by the shop again. And we love it. Truly. We’ve missed seeing faces that aren’t attached to dogs.
So if things look a little different when you walk in, that’s because we’ve been doing some pre-Spring cleaning. Shelves are shifting. Machines are moving. Things are being reorganized, reconsidered, and occasionally stared at thoughtfully before being moved again.
It’s that time of year when winter says, “I’m done,” and we say, “Alright, let’s freshen things up.”
The door is open.
Everyone is welcome.
And we promise the heaters are behaving now.
Stay warm (but not that warm),
Donna
