Subject: The canary is NOT in the coal mine anymore...

It has officially left the building.
Hey Food Slayer!

The canary in the coal mine idiom comes from a time when men who worked in those dirty (and dangerous) coal mines would bring a canary into the mines with them on their shoulders or in a cage so they would know if their lives were in danger.

The dangerous gasses produced in the mines would kill the canary before it could kill the men and if the bird died, the workers would know before danger struck, that it was time to GET (the flock) OUT!
Thanks for being here...let's keep the conversation going so we can all have clean, healthy food on our plates!
But we're not talking about canaries. Nay nay.

We're not really talking about coal miners either. What we ARE talking about this week is the danger that is approaching. We've been warned and now it's time to take action.

Last week, Jamie Dimon, the CEO of Chase JP Morgan was quoted as saying, "brace yourself for an economic hurricane."

Ummmm....WTF?

This billionaire has spent the past three decades in the financial industry, and like him or not, (because he's kind of a douche) he knows financial markets. In fact, he created some of them but that's not the point. The point is, he's given us a warning. The storm is coming and there isn't much time left to get out.
Hey...before I forget, I just want to say, thanks for your patience. You'll hear me thank you (profusely) in this episode and explain why I've been gone for four weeks in the middle of this podcast season, but really...I deeply appreciate you sticking around, listening in and sharing episodes with people you love.

I surely do. Thank you.

So, this episode isn't a "sky is falling", fear mongering declaration of all the bad things that are about to happen to us. I just want to make that clear.

This episode is about recognizing that we can STILL take action and do something to brace ourselves for the impact for the discomfort that is about to be at our front door. But we need to act quickly and strategically.

There is no way any of us can really predict what exactly this will look like in real time, but like a regular hurricane, we expect heavy rains and gusty winds, for hours on end. And once the storm subsides, there's a lot of destruction and devastation (and even death) that takes time to sort out and recover from.

So, if we are to expect an economic hurricane...

We can probably expect financial markets to collapse (like heavy downpour rains). We can probably expect hyperinflation (those gusts of wind wiping out the value of the dollar and our savings - for months, maybe years). We can probably expect a lot of devastated average folks like you and me (losing jobs, assets, wealth and probably our minds too), and some won't make it out to the other side.

*sigh*

You know, people who live in Florida and in the Southeast prepare for hurricane season every year. They know what to do. They've seen it all before and recognize that if they aren't prepared for the impact, sh*t can go underwater real fast.

The billionaires of the world are warning us, in fact, we would argue that they are the architects of this storm that's been a'brewin' since 2008 at least. They've been dropping hints for years and distracting us with little shiny things here and there.

But fear not (and I mean that in the most literal way).

This isn't a time to be fearful. Although things may seem or feel scary, fear is paralyzing. Instead, it's time to take action. Like, right NOW. The storm is coming.

Do what you can to board up your windows (protect what's left of your wealth and get your finances in order), make connections in your community (to build resilience) and make sure you have at least a week's worth of food, water and safe shelter to ride out the storm.

At the end of the day, the canary loses everything unless it flies out in time. We still have a little bit of time, but not much and I hope that you and your family stay safe amidst the uncertainty. Reach out to me if you want some moral support. I'm here and we can try...together. We don't all have to go down with the ship.

Who loves ya? Me...and THANKS for listening to this episode and sharing it with someone you love.

Chow,
Michele
